so £5.8m spent on the GB team for these Olympiads and we get ONE medal with the girl on her baking tray, bring on the proper ones in 2 years time where we've spent £1bn on the the arena in London that looks like a IKEA fruit bowl in the East End and trains that wont work or get there on time,we should get at least 5 medals then at this rate.
what a waste of public spending!
Well WHAT do you expect?  A little bit of cold and snow and ice sends you people cowering inside the house for weeks scribbling end times manifestos by stockpiled candlelight.  [/img]
you got to admit that the GB team have taken bobsleighing to a brand new level.
we've decided that it be more fun to only use it for the first corner and then slide on our arses to the finish line

My point really is that the media indulgence on this has been predictable, and the well meaning people have been predictable, and I can't think of it as anything but one more burden on Joannie Rochette, who doesn't need a bunch of qualities and expectations imposed on her during a numbing and heartbreaking time when she herself probably doesn't completely know how she feels or why she skated or what the impact of her decisions will be.

Very well put.

But I still admire her for doing what she had to do.  Most people would have crumbled.

I actually saw a case where someone killed there own mother for 50 quid to buy crack and then smoked it over her dead body.  This is not a joke, but definitely distasteful.

I had to call Cisco tech support yesterday which is in the US and in the end they couldn't help me and said "Sorry, we're not going to be able to help you today".  And I was like "I bet Sidney Crosby could help me".  And then they were like "What?", and I was like "Nuuuthin'".  My coworker was in hysterics for 30 minutes.  We Canadians are so easy to amuse.
