gonna put my neck on the line and predict a England win by 2 clear goals 2-0 or 3-1 no need to practice the penalties this time :-p

Jon, we both know that the best team does not always win - the luckiest team with the best daily condition, strategy, nerves will win. However : the winner will be stopped by Argentina, anyway, so let's hope it will be a good, memorable match - and may Germany win, lol :-)
I hate to say I told you so but....
England's dodgy defence at it again. Terry, Lampard and Rooney over-rated, as is the Premier League. David James has his patented rush of blood, running out of his goal when all he had to do was guard the post and the Germans would never have scored their second.
And the Germans can keep possession, pass the ball well, & have good movement off the ball -- all qualities that England lack.

How can these terrible calls be allowed in world tournament? No video tech? That's incomprehensible to me. In the NHL you've got multiple camera angles and a central war room in Toronto ready to review goals every second of every game. Just wow. Sorry England.
Hurst's 'goal' was finally avenged.
FIFA is so corrupt that they would sanction Neuer for not telling the referee Larrionda that the ball crossed the line.
So much for these assholes for promoting "Fair Play", when they can't even make games get fair results.

It's over. Should've been 4-2 as in the '66 final... only the other way around.

Disallowed goals can and usually do cost more than face value. They impact team momentum and the mental and sometimes emotional states of the players, which can change everything.
Is there some rationale why the game does not use video review? There must be some reasoning behind it. Does anyone know what it is?

Yes, cost. While goal-line technology might be relatively simple for Western countries to implement at all levels of the game i.e. not just international football, it will be much more difficult to implement that at all levels in every country in the world. However, FIFA have yet to make a convincing case that the technology can't be brought in selectively, for example, at the finals of major tournaments.
Calamity James at fault for Germany's third goal too. Fell over, for some reason.

The whole team were at fault. James was by far their best player. As Alan Shearer said they have the players who we know can play well week in, week out and yet they played like a sunday league school team. I was gonna come on here and make some jokes about the game (stop all the Klocks, Klose all the doors, etc), but the team beat me to it.
where's a Russian linesman when you want one?
in a way i'm glad they are out, watching England "play" was getting bad for my health :-p
who's left worth cheering now, apart from Dirty Diego?
who can i give the "kiss of death" or "Joxer's dreaded finger of doom" to next?

There is no arrogance in stating your opinion or the truth. It only becomes arrogance when you do it from a self-centred place.
"You do realise, gasp, that America is NOT the centre of the universe. It is just one country."
But that's just the thing - generally speaking, Americans are raised/engineered to believe exactly that. They're taught very little in school about other countries (I've even heard of schools that teach how the US won WWII "all on their own"), there is very little mention of other countries in their media (except those they've been at war with), there are very few internationally-flavoured restaurants to be found amidst the thousands of McDonalds, etc. etc. They breed intolerant xenophobes who chase after one thing - money. And if anything exists different from that packaged picture of reality, something is wrong with it and needs to be changed. So the philosophical question remains - is it their fault, the system's fault, or a mixture of both?
Now, back to football. I felt horribly bad for England as their second goal should have counted. Indeed, a bad call can change the complexion of a match, but I think few can deny that Germany were the stronger team overall. They played the game beautifully. Their footwork out-muscled the old-fashioned kick and chase style of England. Had it remained 2-1 there would've been an outrage, but 4-1 is pretty convincing. It probably could've been even more, but the Germans were passing instead of shooting for the last 20 minutes.

Speaking of bad calls, what about Argentina's first goal? Totally unfair. While I agree one wouldn't expect third-division matches in third-world countries to make use of technology, I do think top tournaments (such as Champions League or ... surprise surprise: the world cup!) could and should benefit from it. Refusing to use the videos is as ridiculous as if they were forcing players to shit on cesspits, because you know, not all people can afford toilets.
There cannot be a match England vs Germany without some outrageous incidents: hard to believe how the referee failed to see the goal when the whole stadium and the whole world at the TV sets did see it. Now we will discuss the "2nd goal of Bloemfonteyn" for the next 50 years along with the Wembley goal! Of course the English have every right to say that the match might have turned out very different if the goal had not been disallowed but the Germany team was simply better. I do not think they did not deserve to win although the second goal was very unfortunate.
The English team never lived up to their potential and they could not repeat the great performances from the qualifying matches in the tournament. However, they never gave up fighting and won the respect of the audience. It was another great game in the history of this special rivalry and as a bonus it was a very fair match. Nobody committed a really vicious foul and nobody was hurt. The diiscussion about a goal referee and video proof will start again due to the unbelievable misjudgement by the referree team.
