INTERESTING sighting at Peter Hince exhibition

Yesterday I saw (amongst many things) an early hand written track list for The Works album:

Whipping Boy (early working name for I Go Crazy?"
I Want To Break Free

Man On Fire
Take Another Little Piece of My Heart
It's a Hard Life
Your Heart Again
Man On The Prowl
Radio Caca (yes that's how it was written)
Hammer to Fall
Kepp Passing the Open windows
Man Made Paradise

Very interesting stuff indeed. I've read the name Whipping Boy in John S Stuarts 'Ultimate Collection' thread for the Hot Space sessions, but I never knew it was due to be on 'The Works'.

I wonder if it is an alternative name for I Go Crazy or something new. As for a Queen version of Man On Fire, that is something I would want to hear!

Would be cool - though I suspect this may be just Roger's lead-vocal contribution to the album. Remember that up until Hot Space Roger had a (shared) lead-vocal on every album, and most of the time he played most instruments on his tracks if i'm not mistaken... So I wouldn't be surprised if Greg confirms (though he probably won't) that this version, if it still exists, is pretty much identical to the version on Roger's Strange Frontier album....

Still, good stuff. Seems that there were lots of great tracks left of the album in favour of crap like Prowl and Windows. Imagine that they had finished Piece Of My Heart/Let Me Live, (Let Me In) Your Heart Again and Man on Fire. The Works would've been an amazing album :)

Greg confirmed the existence of a Queen version of "Let Me In Your Heart Again" at a convention a few years ago.
Of course, Brian eventually allowed Anita Dobson to ruin it on her album, but  I CAN imagine Freddie singing that - it's such a beautiful song.

Thanks for the list.  I find it interesting that they dropped from 13 songs to 9 in the end.

Fascinating...They could have even included Let Me Out at that point if Bri didn't put it on Star Fleet. And I must admit that I was surprised to see no There Must Be More to Life Than This on there. That was originally earmarked to close the album....That would have been a powerhouse....I love Man Made Paradise...

This is the same tracklisting that I found in a box of cassette tapes that were hiding in a chest at Peter Freestone's flat way back in 1996.
Unfortunately there was no tape inside, just the cover with all this info wriiten on it. Shame really it was lost, I did go through everything though.

Actually, lack of cassette tapes doesn't mean that they don't have it in the Queen archives on "pro" studio tapes.

They are both great songs, Let Me Live is a piece of crap.

as GT said...this is yesterday's news...
we've known about the tracklist...
we know a version of "let me in your heart again" with freddie's vocals exists...
we know Roger came up with a dozen tunes before "Radio Ca Ca" [ lyrics sheet!!!]from Freddie in an interview...
we know "Love Kills" was a Queen track in its first stage... we know "Is this the world..." replaced "There must be more..."
We also know that we didn't get anything on the bonus ep of "The Works"!

Keep Passing The Open Windows is one of the better songs on the album in my opinion, Man On The Prowl not so much but meh. Let Me Live I'm not sure about. If the gospel vocals on it had been more Somebody To Love-esque (Brian & Roger multilayered vocals) then it would've been so much better. Not a fantastic song overall though, the lyrics are pretty poor.
