Censored/banned videos - for real?

I just read an article in a Mexican newspaper's Online version: El Universal. It talks about Lady Ga Ga's new video with Beyonce, which is to be somewhat censored by MTV. There is the full 9+ minutes version which will only be shown at night and a TV-friendly edit which will be shown during the day.

The relation to Queen is that [b]the article namechecks "Body Language"[/b] as one of the banned videos by MTV, along with Madonna's “Erótica”, Pearl Jam's “Jeremy”, Prodigy's “Smack my bitch up” and NIN's “Closer”.
According to the article, these videos were banned due to having highly explicit content, either violence or sex.

[i]I know this is not a new topic by far[/i], but it's always good to hear other people's versions of the story.

Was Body Language shown on TV back then? If not, was it because it was 'banned' or just because it -erm- "sucks"?

(In most fans' opinions... I happen to like the song, btw. But I know most people don't like it.)


Did anyone hear or read somewhere around that time that Queen's new video had been banned or anything? [b]Did anyone care at the time?[/b]

Is there some reality to this or is it yet another "Queen myth"?

This may be different from country to country.

You should consider that in 1982 MTV was new and only available in few countries.
So Queen videos were so rarely shown on tv that it hardly made any difference if they were banned or not.

There are homoerotic overtones in the video? Other than the plain old erotic overtones, I didn't see any guy/guy girl/girl action in the video. Besides, there's homoerotic undertones in every video with Freddie in it.

I heard they banned 'I Want to Break Free' in certain parts of America, (bahahaha!). I don't see why they ban vidios like this, ok Body laguage is sort of gross but it's hilarious!

What about today's vidios? Like Telephone with Lady Gaga ect ect....disturbing...

We are talking about the early 80s here. And it was a very new and also american Music Channel, where that video was rated as "too hot". It was shown once or twice in many other countries, but no performance was seen more often. Music on tv was rare in those days. 
 
And about those artist named above I can only say, every generation gets the artists it deserves.....

Pink's 'Please Don't Leave Me' video really freaks me out.  I like her a lot, but reverse the genders and this song and this video would never, never, never fly in a thousand years. 

The full Gaga video is on her site, and it's crap. The first of her work that left me actively disliking something she's done.

The ironic thing is that by banning a video you give the song more publicity that if you just played it. I don't think bands really mind at all...

Once I was younger, I was watching Body Language in my bedroom, and my mother walked in and thought I was watching a porn flick or something.

I'm only 23 but I'll say this.... there were a few music video channels in the United States during the 1980s. One was MTV, and there was another one, but I forget the name of it... but the fonts they used for credits of the videos were in bold green letters. They played Queen videos, whether the songs were hits or not, and they never had any restrictions on Queen. MTV never "banned" a Queen video, they just refused to play it. Also, just for the sheer fun of it, I must say, the video to 'Innuendo' was released to MTV. Thus is why a promo single was released, and thus is why it charted on the mainstream rock charts

I read this morning that GaGa just made history by getting 1 billion (with a b) views of her new semi banned video. That's pretty staggering.
