The only reason Kurt Cobain is so popular is BECAUSE he blew his brains out. Had he lived, he would have faded into obscurity. Don't insult Freddie by comparing him to someone who sounded like he was having trouble taking a shit on stage into a microphone. [/QUOTE]
One way you CAN compare them is by album sales. Nevermind has sold more copies than any one Queen album.
So, I don't think they (he) would have faded into obscurity somehow -spearheading a movement of music kind of gives you immortality. And rightly so.

I'll stand up for the late Kurt and say he was a very distinctive vocalist, great song writer and far from a shit guitarist. It all comes down to personal taste of course.
Nevermind isn't over rated, it's a classic, not a dud track on there.
Worlds apart from Freddie of course, couldn't be any more different.
I can't hear the similarity in the line from One Vision though, to get back to the original thread!

true, nevermind sold more records than any one queen album in the states, how about worldwide?...just curious.  also,  nirvana's music will never be considered as classic as Queen by musicians and adult music lovers. Kids maybe, but once all grown up most will agree that queen, the stones, the who and all those classic bands were on a higher level.   Even these days....the only people who consider nirvana great are either kids or the media/music critics.

Yeah, worldwide -but I realise of course that album sales don't reflect talent (I always thought The Tea Party were destined to be the biggest band in the world, but...)

Queen for me will always be the greatest band ever -but I think the whole Seattle scene was much needed to save us all from Genesis and Whitney Houston.

And Nevermind really was a cracker of an album I must say. Kurt was due to work with Michael Stipe around the time of his death. I can only guess at how amazing that could have been.
Might go listen to Bleach.

I am an adult. I still love Nirvana as much as I did when I was a teenager and I still listen to Bleach, Nevermind and In Utero from time to time.

But I hear NO similarity between Freddie and Kurt, sorry

I know what your talking about.

Seems people on this forum are only interested in the fact that Cobain shot himself. Meh...

they have their place in history for sure...nothing we say hear will change that, but if i had to pick one band that i think is overated it will be nirvana.  i said that about GNR, but at least they had slash that brought some real talent to that band.  Nirvana had a horrible lead singer, horrible guitar work.  nothing from the bass playing.  Then to compare that with a night at the opera or queen2 is criminal.  It's only my opinion here folks....I don't judge the man for shooting himself....no one's perfect, and in some way's i don't blame the guy. this world is a shit hole.  That reminds me...if they're  is anything that i relate to in their music it's gotta be the lryics.   even than i prefer the goofy fun lryics of queen over the shoot my brains out lryics from nirvana even though i relate to it.

No....I don't believe there is any similarity at all.

And I have nothing against Cobain. I'm 40 and still love cranking up Nevermind.

Not that much similarity, but yeah, I can well imagine Kurt Cobain sing at least the verse parts of One Vision. Not that he would anymore, of course. Nirvana was not a bad band as such, it just takes some time to hear the genius behind the somewhat sloppy exterior in their music. And even if Kurt didn't have my favourite style of singing, he was a damn powerful vocalist.

On the same theme, my wife can be heard shouting for our son, 'Christopher !' during 'The Invisible Man'    ( 'Never had a real good friend , not a boy or a girl)   Right  on 'girl'- anybody else noticed?

cobain was at best an ordinary song-writer who produced plodding, monotone dirges

very little came out of that style of music that will not date worse than AKOM or any Europe/Bon Jovi albums

Agreed,  no one even now talks much about nirvana.  The band sounds dated. Only a few songs have stayed the course.

All I can read here that is positive about Nirvana is "Nevermind". So what! One 'good' album does not even come close to comparing to Queen or any classic bands. Nirvana was part of a crappy grunge phase that did not last. Crap doesn't last . Did you hear the "Unplugged" album? That was crap and a half!
Seriously, people. If he had not shot himself, he would not even be talked about right now. He was NOT a super talented person who died too soon, leaving us with only speculation as to what he would have done next. He peaked at Nevermind, and then went straight downhill from crap to shit!

Comparing Freddie's voice with Kurt Cobain's is...yeah...I don't know.

Kurt's style was the scratchy vocals of, "I have a mediocre voice, I know it, and I don't give a sh*t." Freddie's style was anything but. I don't know that Queen ever really sounded like Nirvana at all.

Like, ever.

And for the record, I thank God every day that Nirvana existed, because it gave us one of the best live bands of all time (The Foo Fighters). Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of Nirvana's stuff, but I'm far more of a Foos fan than I'll ever be a Nirvana fan.
