Queen references

To my surprise, when watching Chuck I was caught off-guard when the name of a bad guy was none other than Farrokh Bulsara. And as any Queen fan knows, that was Freddie's real name! Here's the episode in question - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185875/

So, it got me thinking, what other shows, music (or anything really) seem to hide little Queen references such as this? Please post your best spottings!

The Jazz album is (barely) visible in the first Charlie's Angels film.

After years of hating American television (or at least not being too fond of it), I've been watching several programmes lately (not on telly though, but on DVD), and I seem to remember both 'Under Pressure' and 'Best Friend' used quite often. Gilmore Girls also made a reference to watching the band without the lead singer.

There's of course the thing about Homer Simpson.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Ah yes! Homer singing WATC when he catches a fabled fish and I'm sure we've heard WWRY at some point during the Simpsons.

Btw, just hearing that the reboot for Highlander is contemplating using the classic Queen music. Personally, I would say, take the raw parts like Freddie's vox and anything else useful and remix/re-record some stuff to freshen it up and apply it to the new film. Of course, if the film turns out to be pants, then Bri n Rog can reject that idea! lol

...And in the process, let some multi-tracks accidentally leak to the public.

In a Stephen King book of short stories (opps already gave you a hint) and one of the stories has a character  listening to Queen's Greatest Hits album. The character was thinking how "Freddie Mercury's voice sounds so nice and pure".... anyone remember that?

I love that short story, but not for the Queen reference.

Just this past week on Modern Family, two of the characters were playing chess. The one character said, "You can't sing We are the Champions without your Queen," and moved his opponent's Queen off the board. I thought that was pretty clever!

By the way, my favourite book (Come Together by Josie Lloyd & Emlyn Rees) also mentions 'Bo Rhap'. Jack describes losing his virginity at age 17, and of course he lasted mere seconds. The following morning, he and his then-gf tried again and then he lasted three songs (IIRC), but he remarks that should've counted as five (IIRC) since one of the songs was 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.

In Neal Gaimin's great book 'Good Omens', a character mentions that every cassette tape left in a car for a period of time will eventually transform into Queens Greatest Hits.
"Queen is the only band in the world that can play so heavily that your nose bleeds, then offer a silk handkerchief to clean up with."

I'm sure you know this, but for the benefit of our other readers, this is a running gag throughout the book that also includes some lyrics being quoted.

Another (more obscure) reference is Robert Rankin, who dedicated one of his books to Freddie - something about being a bastard for dying without paying him back that tenner from 1971.

Years ago, in Dublin, I asked Robert Rankin to sign some books for my wife  (she was too shy to ask)). Somehow the subject fo Fred came up. (I vaguely remember this so bear with me). He said when he was at college he wentr to an art museum. While he was looking at a painting he kind of leaped up from a crouched position and accidentally head butted the person behind him in the mouth. It urned out to be Fred. The painting may have been The Fairy teller's Masterstroke. Or it may not. This was 1998 and my memory of that time isn't great for some reason. Searching around the web, it seems they were at Ealing Art College together and he tells a story about spilling hot coffee in Fred's lap. So either he was particularly accident prone around Fred, or my memory isn';t that great. Probably the latter.

The first verse of The Tragically Hip's 'Fly' off World Container (2006) contains the line "Freddie Mercury I sometimes wished I'd never been born at all".

@Holly - You've probably got it right.  How hard can it have been to accidentally head butt Fred in the mouth?
