Thanks for the heads up! Is it instore as well?

I saw it on Amazon the other day for sale from a third party for 15 quid and thought that would be quite a good price for just the book.

Is the book worth buying? I'm loathed to buy this release on principle but if the books good enough and for this sort of price...

If anyone could care less about buying this, you can (LEGALLY) listen to the entire double cd version for free at we7.com -> http://www.we7.com/#/album/Absolute-Greatest-Includes-track-by-track-commentary-!albumId=408991

Don't know if this would be available in-store. I get the feeling it wouldn't be, but you can always check. In fact, I may be going into my local superstore sometime to check for some blurays. I'll see what I see...maybe tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up, I just ordered a copy. £40 was a bit excessive but you can't complain about £13!

Also - where the ***k is Innuendo? One of their finest singles ever and the only other number one they had in the UK!

Sorry, but I nearly rolled over in my chair. What the fuck is that supposed to mean?!
Are you trying to insinuate that because there is 80 minutes worth of audio on a CD, that the audio quality actually SUFFERS?? What a retarded statement!

The tracks were freshly remastered (by Bob Ludwig) specifically for this release last year, and YES they very may well be the best quality we have to date (other than the PCM 96/24 stereo remasters of the tracks available on the ANATO and Game DVD-Audio releases!). Lots of people were very pleased with the quality of these remasters, and would actually LIKE to see the whole catalogue remastered by Bob Ludwig!

If you still don't understand what remastered means, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remaster

I compared AG to the 1991 Hollywood remasters in a studio environment, and I can safely say the only track that has any significant improvement is Seven Seas Of Rhye.  A lot of the little clicks in the sound have been removed, and the sound is much fuller.  It was also sped up a very slight bit.

The rest of the tracks sound just about the same.  A bit of compression has been added on most of the songs, and some very slight imperfections have been removed here and there.  But there is no substantial upgrade.

I'm not talking about compression re: file size.  I'm talking about the production technique compression (squeezing the highs and lows in the volume together):  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_range_compression

Most modern records employ the use of compression, and in my opinion it's one of the worst things ever to happen to music in the last 20 years, as it can make music sound very overblown (however, in the case of AG, it's a very slight usage, which can be a good enhancement tool).  Needless to say, this will probably be an endless debate between fans of music and record producers alike.

As for file compression, it's simply a non-issue with CD audio.  It is impossible to fit more than 80 minutes of music onto a standard audio CD (this particular disc is 79:20).  CD audio is uncompressed, so file size will never be an issue.  It's about 10Mb per minute, equivalent to a 16-bit, 44 kHz WAV file.

Adam Baboolal wrote: Just posting this deal as Asda.com (UK) seem to be selling the Book version of Absolute Greatest with both discs (+ annual of course) for a mere £13! Sorry, but when I saw the book, I wanted it. But not at £30-40. However, £13 is very acceptable when considering the commentary as a nice extra.

Don't feel bad. I don't think anyone could've seen it dropping as soon as it had.

Also, just to say I've had a confirmation of despatch for the book today. I will also pass comment on the sound of the cd as I had a very significant speaker upgrade for my lil' studio. So, I will let you all know track by track.

OK, I'm listening to the CD, and the only thing I can say about it is : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_War
The songs are loud and they are not better (to my ears at least) than the mini vinyl remasters

I adore Queen and literature. This is my favorite college subject, and so I was really happy when I saw this book. I found it thanks to the recommendation of https://studyhippo.com/essays-on/law/ of this educational platform and was delighted.

Writing an essay often seems to be a dreaded task among students. Whether the essay is for a scholarship, a class, or maybe even a contest, many students often find the task overwhelming. Writing an essay involves taking a position on an issue and defending it using academic support—especially first-year students who do not have strong enough academic background. I suggested to all who not sure of their skills do not take a risk and go to https://legitwritingservices.com/scholarship-essay-writing-services/ get the 5% discount.
