Steve Perry was a coke head.  Deal with it.

So was Freddie.

Yay coke!

Speaking of coke didn't Michael Jackson catch Freddie doing coke once when they were recording together? *tries not to laugh...*

I see a fat theme running through this thread therefor:

Hey Skip yo so fat when you step on the scales it says 'ERROR: overload'

The setlist this time is incredible... quite possibly Rush's best ever.  They're pushing 60 and not slowing down in the least.  The video clips are brilliant, and many songs have brand new sections for this tour.  The new songs are excellent, revealing a band who are still growing.

Kiss schmiss.  This is a real band who are still at the peak of their powers and probably more popular now more than ever.  And they earned it with the music and ONLY the music.  How many bands can say that?  Catch them if you can.

Hey Sir GH.

I saw Rush back in 2008 during the Snakes and Arrows tour. Incredible night.

3 hours of music (with a 15 minute intermission)!

This 2010 setlist is weak.  "Faithless" is crap.  Heard "Working Them Angels" twice (2007 and 2008) and don't need
to hear that one ever again.  Alex stated before tickets went on sale that they were going to play "Jacob's Ladder".
Asshole.  It's not in the set.  I don't care for "Caravan".  "BU2B" is o.k.   Hearing "Moving Pictures" in its entirety is
no big deal because they play 70% of it on every tour and play "Witch Hunt" and "Vital Signs" every few tours
(WH was played in 2007 and 2008).

Looking forward to "Vital Signs" and "Marathon".  Beyond that, been there done that.

I'll be seeing them this coming Monday in CT.  I'll enjoy the show, but it's far from being RUSH's best setlist.

KISS' "Sonic Boom" cd is miles better than those two new RUSH tunes.  KISS got it right.  RUSH keeps
going further off the mark.  Hopefully the rest of the new RUSH cd won't suck.  At least it has to be
better than "Snakes And Arrows".  That one pretty much blew.

Skip, since we are both fans of Rush, what do you think would be the BEST setlist would be for a concert?

I always wanted Rush to play some more cuts from Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows.

skip,  Are you serious?...Snakes and arrows vs sonic boom?...are you joking?.  Watching rush continue to make great music and awsome tours makes me a little jealous as a Queen fan to be honest.......   i'm not in love with every rush album post signals, but they got it right with snake and arrows.  Vapor trails was a nice warm up to that one.  saw them three times a while back. first show was the hold your fire tour.  the band alway's puts on a great show.

My first two RUSH tours were Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows.  PW is the last RUSH cd
that I liked all the way through.  Post PW I tend to only like maybe 50% of the material.  I think Snakes &
Arrows is pretty boring (I only like "The Larger Bowl" and "We Hold On".  "Far Cry", "The Main Monkey
Business", and "Malignant Narcissism" are o.k.).  Hopefully "Clockwork Angels" will be better than S&A.
I don't care for "Caravan".  "BU2B" is o.k.

I'll answer your question in two ways.

There are many songs that I like that I haven't heard them play.  That setlist would look like this:

What You're Doing
Anthem - (Only heard a snippet during the R30 Overture)
Best I Can
Beneath, Between & Behind
Fly By Night
In the End
Bastille Day - (Only heard a snippet during the R30 Overture)
Lakeside Park
Something for Nothing
A Farewell to Kings
Cygnus X-1:  Book I - The Voyage (Only heard a snippet during the R30 Overture)
Cygnus X-1:  Book II - Hemispheres (Heard the instrumental part before the lyrics start on, I think, the
Counterparts tour and heard a snippet during the R30 Overture)
Jacob's Ladder
Different Strings - (without the horrible outro solo)
Losing It
Afterimage
Cut to the Chase
Ceiling Unlimited - (I heard Ghost Rider twice on the Vapor Trails tour; they were switching CU and GR
nightly)
We Hold On

This would be my RUSH Farewell Tour setlist:

Working Man
By-Tor and the Snow Dog
A Passage to Bangkok
A Farewell to Kings
Xanadu
Circumstances
The Trees
Freewill
Natural Science
Red Barchetta
Limelight
Witch Hunt - (Although I'm getting burnt out on it; 2007, 2008, 2010, and at some other shows I've seen)
Vital Signs
Subdivisions
The Analog Kid
Afterimage
The Enemy Within
Manhattan Project
Marathon
Mystic Rhythms
Lock and Key
Mission
The Pass
Test For Echo
Earthshine
The Larger Bowl

There are other songs that I really like, but left them off from this list because I've seen them performed
many times and would prefer to hear the above songs.

What would your RUSH Farewell Tour setlist contain?

I was comparing "Sonic Boom" to the two new RUSH songs "Caravan" and "BU2B", not the "Snakes And Arrows" cd.  Since you brought up "S&A", my comment about "Sonic Boom" also applies to "S&A".

The two new songs were put together very quickly and they sound it.  I think the "S&A" cd is boring and very
subpar.

"Sonic Boom" is a great KISS cd.  "S&A" isn't a great RUSH cd.  KISS were focused.  RUSH didn't sound
focused.  Repetitive, long songs that go nowhere.  That tour was beyond boring when they decided to
play 9 tracks from the new cd.

RUSH put on a great show.  Doesn't mean that the setlist is a good one.  This 2010 setlist shows a band
who has been off the road for over a year and a half being very lazy and even lying about a particular song
that they said was going to be played, but isn't being played.  I guess that was their way to sell a few more
tickets.   I've seen RUSH once or twice on every tour starting with "Grace Under Pressure".  I can judge a good
setlist from a poor one.

As far as "Vapor Trails" goes "One Little Victory", "Ceiling Unlimited", and "Secret Touch" are o.k.
"Earthshine" is great.  The rest is filler.  The fact that they tried to be current by not having any
guitar solos on the cd was pretty pathetic.  I won't even get into the sound quality problems.

When RUSH releases a great new studio cd I'll sing its praises.  The thing is they haven't
released a great studio cd in a very long time.

Skip, your dream Rush setlist actually isn't too different from mine.  I'd like to hear Nobody's Hero again.  And I, too, was bummed with the lack of Jacob's Ladder after Lifeson promised it.  At least I saw Dream Theater do it a few years ago, note for note like the Exit Stage Left version, intro and all.

As for their studio records, you're right, a lot of their recent records haven't been too solid.  But I'd say Counterparts and Snakes And Arrows are among their top 10.  As far as I'm concerned, Snakes is the best post-Signals record.  It's very ballsy, ambitious, melodic, and diverse... all the Rush trademarks.

Signals is the album where many Rush fans say the band starting going downhill, usually becasue the guitar is buried a bit more than previous albums. I think it's their best album. Not a weak track, and great melodies and lyrics. It's one of those rare albums  that always sounds fresh.
