I know someone did a topic comparing NOTW to Innuendo so I decided to compare these two. These are both my favorite Queen albums but I might like ADATR more.

Two great albums! It's kinda hard to compare them since they are both in Queen's "classic era." I'd give a SLIGHT edge to A Day At The Races though.

Another note: In my opinion, the ADATR tracks sound/work better live than the SHA tracks.

Agreed. That's also why i like the ADATR tour much more than the SHA tour

Even though Freddie didn't have nodules on the SHA tour (well, the 1974 leg), I always found his voice to be better and stronger overall on the ADATR tour (especially that European leg)!

I love them both, but I guess I'd pick 'Sheer Heart Attack' because it's got (IMO) 11 great tracks instead of 9. A ridiculous reason for a tie-break, but it's the only one I could come up with.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

I like both the albums. I agree thet ADATR has better songs to be played live and I especially love TYMD and STL, but as a studio album I prefer SHA.

I think I'd go for ADATR, but it's mainly because I think SHA is ruined near the end with She Makes Me, Bring Back That Leroy Brown and Misfire and Dear Friends. ADATR does not have such kind of tracks, thus making it victorious in this battle, but it was a VERY CLOSE battle.

love both albums....for a long time i would have said SHA...One of the best rock albums ever IMO, but A day at the races has aged so well. It gets better with age.  I'm still in awe of the millionare waltz and you take my breath away.  Every song is a gem,  while SHA does have one song i'm not crazy about, "She makes me."  So i'll give the edge to Races.  My top 4......

Ya both are great albums and in should be in the top 10 albums of all time, but I love A Day at the Races more because it has my favorite queen song, Somebody to Love, and it also has all other of my favorites like YTMBA, Millionaire Waltz, and GOFLB, the only thing that dissapoints me is the album is a little too short

Day at the races was from happier times, Queen at their peak. With Innuendo, there was a certain forboding because of the conjecture surrounding Freddie's health, did this cloud the musical merit ? Maybe.

*thinks*...........

*still thinking*.....

*thinks some more*.....

Over I prefer a ADATR but...*Looks at track list of SHA*...darn I actually can't choose, honestly I like them equally as much. I prefer the rocker sound of SHA and 'Flick of the wrist' & 'Lily of the valley' are some of my all time favorite Queen songs....yet on ADATR  'White man' is a fav song because of the variations in it  and I can't help but love Good Old fashoined lover boy & somebody to love :)

So Im afraid I just can't choose :(

I seem to be largely alone in this matter, but Sheer Heart Attack never did much for me. A Day At The Races is an absolute masterpiece, though.
