Actually I'm looking for some new videos for my collection, but I'm only collecting official or at least legal releases (no bootlegs or pirates) and so I got a bit confused by that many DVD releases available.
First "Queen Live in Rio" There exists an official Release on VHS and Laserdisc. But there ist also a dvd release around: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Queen-Live-Rio-1985-QUEEN/dp/B000NWGWHK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1279380764&sr=8-1 It's released by Queen Films Ltd. (as is the Rare Live VHS) and Masterplan. So to my eyes it seems to be at least legal. But perhaps it's more worthy buying the official VHS as this DVD is stated to have a corporate logo and copying VHS->DVD isnt that complicated.
Than "Queen Final Live In Japan" 1985 On queenconcerts.com it is stated as official release on VHS, LD and DVD. But you shall take care of brasil pirates. So I found following releases: 1. http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=292429 from Queen Films Ltd. / WOWOW (japanese TV Staion ???) POBE-3200 this seems to be legal to my eyes. 2. http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B0001ZN8R6/ref=s9_simh_gw_p74_i1?pf_rd_m=AN1VRQENFRJN5&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=032QZ171ZETCZKCWMGR0&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463376736&pf_rd_i=489986 seems almost identical to the first one 3. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Queen-Live-Japan-1985-DVD/dp/B000GCGDOY this one is stated as being from Quantum Leap ??? what is that ? So in this case I'd prefer the first one.
"Queen Live In Japan" 1982 queenconcerts.com states this as official VHS and LD release in Japan. I found two versions of the laserdisc http://www.queencollector.com/Laserdiscs/Japan82.html and http://www.queencollector.com/Laserdiscs/LiveJapan8299.html and one vhs http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=506583 to me these seem to be official. I also found this DVD http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001Z9B7UW/ref=s9_simh_gw_p74_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=0476CF85ZKJNGQBEKMVV&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294 but couldn't find out anything further about it. Who made it ? Does that one have the rights to release it ? In this case I'd prefer buying the VHS although it seems very hard to find.
"Queen Live In Budapest" In this case I could only find the official VHS, LD. I'd prefer buying the VHS. Just wondering there seems no kind of DVD release of this one around.
So what items would you prefer from a "collecting official/legal stuff" view ?
I've seen none of all these videos yet. Having a look at the video and audio quality, do these DVDs differ a lot from the official VHS videos or are some even just copies from VHS ?
And finally: Are there any other official/legal concert videos I missed beside these four and of course Wembley, Bowl, Montreal, Freddie Tribute, Return Of The Champions, Super Live In Japan, Live In Ukraine, Rainbow (Box Of Trix), Rare Live and perhaps Live Aid, 46664 and Party At The Palace ?

Any "official" Japan 82/85, Rio and Budapest LDs or DVDs are direct copies of the VHS. Sorry to disappoint !

Aren't LDs from Japan original releases? I mean, the ones listed here: http://www.pcpki.com/cgi-bin/discography.cgi?/format:LD.
Perhaps they don't offer any additional quality upgrade from the VHS but they must not be copies FROM the VHS, but taken from the same "master" or something (which COULD be a VHS, maybe, I don't know).
It's NOT like those shady Brazilean DVD releases which are COPIES from the Laserdiscs, or is it?

Reply: In content maybe, but the quality on the laserdisc versions is obviously vastly superior.

Avoid the master plan version of Japan 85 - it has an on screen logo throughout.
The best versions of Japan 82, Rio 85 and Budapest 86 on DVD would all be pirated laserdisc rips.
There is a master plan laserdisc transfer version of Rio on DVD (again with an on screen logo)

Those fuckers should be shot for ruining absolutely everything they touch :-( They simply transferred the official VHS tapes to digital, made them look like pure garbage, added a logo (!) to the video and released it "under exclusive license by Queen Film Ltd. " (who the f*** is Queen Film Ltd. ???)
When I bought my first DVD player, the first DVDs I bought were Queen DVDs, and I of course bought the Masterplan releases, because I didn't check them online and I didn't have a clue they're all pirate DVDs.
It is absolutely incredible that they're still being sold, I wrote about it to Amazon maybe 10 years ago and they STILL sell those :-( Maybe it's a good idea to report them to Brian's soapbox ?
To the topic starter - get the official VHS tapes if you still have a video player, or in case of Final Live In Japan buy the official DVD, simply AVOID MASTERPLAN

many thanks for the reply. That Queen Film(s) thing seems really tricky.
So I'm going to buy the Japan 1985 DVD as mentioned above. In the case of Japan 1982, Rio and Budapest I'll buy the original VHS or LD. LD seem very interesting cause they have a digital 44 kHz audio signal, but are more expensive. I'll think about that.

Would there be interest in DVD transfers of official VHS tapes that have never been released since their original release? Brian May Starlicks, Works Video EP, Rare Live etc.... ? I have most of them, and am willing to transfer them to DVD if it is allowed.
