Hello everyone, When Queen toured the States in 1975, Kansas and Mahogany Rush were two of the support acts that toured with them.Styx also played some shows with Queen but there is no indication as to which venues. Posters have been seen on various sites with the former two bands listed but nothing with Styx. Has anyone in the States on this site seen the two perform together or does anybody here in general know when Styx joined the tour.
Thanks for your help...

Go to http://www.queenconcerts.com/live/queen/sha.html and click on the various US show dates. The first one I clicked on (Columbus, OH) had Styx listed as one of the support groups.

Hey thanks Thunderbolt! but I'm looking for an actual date that Styx performed. Any date on that tour. With Kansas and Mahogony Rush at least we had some tour posters from Martin's site. As much as I've researched the Styx opening slot dilema nothing has come out as far as proof of a date. Thank you for your help.

I cannot help you on your search anymore than what is on queenconcerts (yet).......but, are aware that Styx is touring the States, doing 'Grand Illusion' and 'Pieces of Eight' in their entirities (plus six other tracks)? I've seen them a few times minus DDY. The last time they finally performed 'Suite Madame Blue'......and.....well...Lawrence Gowan ain't DDY, but he's pretty damn good.
Looking forward to seeing this show in Baltimore in two months.

Queenconcerts.com gives you the exact date of each concert. Seriously, all you're looking for is right there.

Maybe the answer can be found here, by clicking on the 1st line.... http://www.lookatstubs.com/bands/queen.htm
But I don't want to pay 9 dollar to see a 35 year old concert ticket. It could be the same as the one shown on queenconcerts.com

Nothing from the Styx side either. Full gigography here, and no metions of Queen in 1975 or ever, though Mahogany Rush et al are listed in 1975.
The makers of this site do mention the Styx/Queen concerts from 1975, but use Queenconcerts as their source, so it doesn't count in my opinion

It's interesting, isn't it. The gig from the ticketstub link is in February 1975, and the list I posted doesn't have Styx gigs until March 1975. Could be just a missing gig/gigs, or could be some kind of special circumstances that is making this harder to probe. Plans changed after tickets printed or something along those lines. Still, cross checking should be easy enough as the gig dates/venues and other acts are all pretty well documented through 1975.

I did a little more research and found this article from Goldmine, issue 502, October 1999:
http://www.chuckthewriter.com/Styx.pdf
Quoting Tommy Shaw on page 10:
"We were the opening act from Hell," said Tommy Shaw, "the opening act that can eat your lunch. The one act that we didn't blow off the stage was Queen. We went there and put in our set, but Freddie Mercury - nobody was touching his lunch. His lunch was secure."

That's right! Styx is on the cover of the current issue of Goldmine magazine! The cover date of the magazine is October 22, 1999, and it went on sale to the public on Friday, October 8th. The issue number is #502. Inside, there are about 11 pages worth of Styx material including the following: Pictures (from the early days with JC all the way up to the current tour-line-up), an in-depth discography, interviews, information, etc...

Freddie's "lunch was secure"!. Ha ha. Awesome. Great detective work!
