As we know the critics tried to say that AOBTD had hidden lyrics regarding the use of drugs which probably wasnt true and perhaps John was sensitve to the criticzim because when he wrote Back Chat we have the lines

Yeah
Get back get back
Back chat back chat
You burn all my energy
Back chat back chat
Criticizing all you see
Back chat back chat
Analysing what I say
Back chat back chat
And you always get your way

some of the lines may be a dig back at the critics

what do you think?

Sounds very logical. I don't know, but maybe you're right. We could ask John, but probably he is not in the mood to respond. :P

I always thought it was about band arguments, but you certainly may be right.  Or it could even be a bit of both.

I think all 4 members were sensitive to criticizm from the press, Freddie especially use to say that he hated the press but it was ok because they hated him!!!

I never read any deeper meaning into too many Queen songs, at least in the autobiographical sense. I don't think they felt the need to put their lives into their songs most of the time. Once in a while they do, yes, but it's usually pretty clear.

With "Back Chat," I just hear one side of an argument between two fictional characters.

But that's just me.

I don't think the songs have any connection, as said before, it would have been more obvious.

On a sidenote, I envy the people who could even just consider the idea that Deacon was recording 'it's fun to smoke marijuana' backwards to find out it's 'Another one bites the dust' and decided to write a song around it. I'd love to live in the fantasy world they appear to spend their lives in.
