It's also amusing when they INSIST that "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" was cover of an Elvis song.
BUT IT WAS. I INSIST. ELVIS WROTE IT IN THE BATH OR WHEN HE WAS IN BED OR SOMETHING. GEEZ.
Or when they think I'm screwing with them when I tell them that, yes, "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Another One Bites The Dust," "We Will Rock You," "We Are The Champions," and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" are all by the same band.
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY WAS A ROLF HARRIS SONG, LATER COVERED BY KWEEN (THAT FREDDY BLOKE AND HIS OTHER GAY CHUMS) THEN THE BRAIDS. WE WILL ROCK YOU IS A MUSICAL, BASED ON THE LIFE OF BEN ELTON. IT IS A LONG-RUNNING THING IN LONDON, YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT. ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST IS BY HAITI PRESIDENT WYCLEFF JEAN, AND WAS LATER COVERED BY MIAMI PROJECT. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS WAS ORIGINALLY BY THE FAT DANCER OFF TAKE THAT AND WAS LATER REMASTERED FOR THE X-FACTOR. CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE IS BY ELVIS. THAT'S PRESLEY, NOT COSTELLO - HE WAS THE FAT ONE FROM ABBOTT AND COSTELLO.
I've used CAPS because I'm shouting at you, Rhyeking.

I've heard crazier theories!
Like Marilyn Manson is actually Josh Saviano from The Wonder Years (he's not). Or that the moon landing were faked (they weren't).
A personal favourite Queen misconception is that BoRhap is about Freddie facing his imminent death. I chalk this up to confusion resulting from the song's 1991/1992 re-issue, Freddie's death, Waynes's World and the Tribute Concert all happening in a short period.
The funniest misconception I ever heard was a guy who insisted that Queen and Queensryche are the same band. I wish I had tape-recorded this guy's elaborate explanation has to how this was possible because it was truly inspired (and complete lunacy!).

Freddie has said himself that he was bisexual in one quote (and said to Mary that he was "bi"), then he says "gay" in another. The thing with Elton John, was that he first said he was "bi" in 1976, then marries a woman in 1984, then they get divorced because Elton said he was truely happier with a man instead--then he comes out as gay in 1988.
With Freddie, he's always said that Mary was his "true love" and that no man could replace her. I personally don't believe he was 100% gay, but rather on the "gay" side of bisexual. Sure he had more male relationships than female relationships, but I think Freddie just wanted love and someone who he could trust (either gender).

Freddie was gay!.....or else he would have stayed with mary. The love of his life. People close to him even said that he was Gay. Mary and the other woman (forget her name) both said it in the freddie documentry. both obviously a lot closer to the man than we are. He loved mary, but not in a physical way,

Well he was very happy! :D

Funny thing, there was a website that called Freddie "pansexual." I couldn't stop laughing.

I thought Freddie had a physical relationship with Mary?

yes, but how many men were married before they came out?.....you ever hear of a beard?....a coverup?....every gay man had a coverup in his life. you think it's easy telling your friends and family "i'm gay". Even worse if your a rock star and telling the whole world......... Freddie, you're gay! (words of mary austin).

But Freddie wasn't married!
I'll just say Freddie was straight. lol

FREDDIE WAS NOT GAY. WHY CANT YOU JUST ACCEPT IT.
There is nothing wrong with being gay but he clearly was not gay. If you have any relations with a women you are not gay. He had several female girlfriends along with a true love who was female. Yes, it just so happened that his last relationship was with a man when he died but that's because his life was cut off and he died so young. Freddie Mercury was definitely not gay. He was a perfect example of a bisexual man.
And he was not a rock singer. He was a diverse singer who can sing any genre so a rock singer wouldn't be the most appropriate classification. Yes he could sing rock but he could also sing a lot of other styles like opera, which I absolutely believe he sang better. Freddie was a well rounded singer and you can't put him in a one group, and especially one like rock.

Actually, Jam, I disagree.
I have several gay friends who have had relationships, sexual or otherwise, with women before accepting who they really are. It's incredibly common and unfortunate that they feel the pressure of society, family, culture, or whomever to be something they're not...or because they simply do not understand why they think they should feel one thing and be another. Whatever was going on in their life, their actions did NOT reflect who they really are.
The world is not so black and white that we can say, under absolutely any and all circumstances, that because a gay man sleeps with a woman, he is disqualified from being gay. You can't stop being gay or start being gay. It's something a person is (or is not) no matter what his or her actions are.
As for Freddie, I don't care about his sexuality. It's none of my business.

Why does it even matter? You seem to be very intent on not believing him to be gay. Who really cares whether he was gay or not? I have to say, if there is one thing that annoys me, it's when I watch a Queen video on youtube, and half the comments are about Freddie's sexuality. Get over it people! Listen to the genius that was Freddie and stop posting comments on his sexuality which is completely irrelevent!!!
Anyway funnilly enough, on a thread about misconceptions, you yourself have a misconception.
The truth is sexuality is much more complicated than you believe it to be and it doesn't fit into neat boxes.
"There is nothing wrong with being gay but he clearly was not gay. If you have any relations with a women you are not gay."
Not true in the slightest. It's a common misperception, but the reality is that sexuality is alot more fluid and personal than that. It's not as simple as 'you sleep with a member of the opposite sex, you are not gay.' You may find this hard to believe, but one can sleep with both men and women and still regard oneself as gay, and one can sleep with one gender and regard oneself as bisexual. Sexuality is not absolute or black + white, and ultimately you are what you define yourself as.
I know a married couple, where both the man and the woman consider themselves to be lesbians. I know another couple who emotionally are closer than most married coupls, but never sleep with each other, as they prefer to sleep with members of their own gender. Neither however would describe themselves as bisexual (or gay) as they consider it to be a simplistic and narrow term used by people who feel a need to label everything. Additionally a girl I once dated who has only ever dated women would, if pressed, describe her as bisexual. Those are just three examples of people whose sexualities do not fit into boxes.
"He had several female girlfriends along with a true love who was female. Yes, it just so happened that his last relationship was with a man when he died but that's because his life was cut off and he died so young."
How do you know? Considering that you have never met him, you come out with some extraordinary statements. Putting aside what sexuality he had, you don't know whether he would have slept with more women had he lived.
"Freddie Mercury was definitely not gay. He was a perfect example of a bisexual man."
This statement sums it up best how you want to simplify sexuality. There is no perfect example of a bisexual man. There is no perfect example of a straight or gay man, or a straight/gay/bi woman. Sexuality comes in all shapes and sizes, it's personal, no one person is purely representative of a particular sexuality, language is imprecise and people's identites can't often be summed up with simplistic labels.
The truth is none of us can know for certain whether Freddie was gay, as I don't believe that he ever actually came out and confirmed it, however based on what his friends and those who knew him best said, we can safely assume that he was gay.
"Freddie was a well rounded singer and you can't put him in a one group, and especially one like rock."
What's wrong with rock? :D

A fascinating piece called 'Boys are Better Than Girls' by a gay Canadian writer named Bert Archer appeared in an anthology of essays published under the title 'What I Meant to Say' in the mid-2000's. It convinced me that homosexuality is indeed a choice for some people. It's one those really striking things I'll never forget reading. Many of the other essays in the book were really worthwhile as well.
Anyway, the only thing that complicates the relative purity of Freddie's gay orientation is the alleged emotional and ultimately sexual relationship with Barbara Valentin around 1985. Hard to know what to make of that.
I think if one is interested in Freddie as a human being, one should be interested in his sexual orientation as it does define to a certain extent a set of experiences and a certain path through life. I don't find contemplating this to be intrusive at all. It's interesting and contributes to a sense of empathy for a person I find compelling and pretty wonderful.

What confusing me is that Freddie has said that Mary couldn't replace any other lover and refers to her as his "true love." Hell, even he wrote a song (Love Of My Life) about her!
Freddie did say he was bisexual in one quote ("I Play on the bisexual thing"), then said to Mary that he was bisexual (but then Mary says she thinks he was gay).
There's evidence supporting him being gay, but then there's evidence supporting him being bisexual.
