Commentary transcripts

I've been kicking this idea around for a while and wanted to see what people thought.

If I can find the time, I thought it might be worthwhile to start transcribing the various audio commentaries Queen and others have done over the years, mostly on DVD releases. I started thinking about it a while back when I was trying to remember a) where I heard a particular quote, and b) what the exact wording was. I had to scour a few releases before I found it and thought it would have been faster to have had the transcript to read through (and cut and paste from).

If I took the time to do this, and posted them here, would they be of use to people?

I would not edit them, so if the commentator said something inaccurate, it would be left as is (and would likely fuel debate here, which is always helpful). I'd also try to keep the inflections and emphasis where possible.

I make no guarantees about how fast I could do these.

The releases I'm thinking of include:

Greatest Video Hits I & II
Queen Rock Montreal
A Night At The Opera 30th Ann. DVD
We Will Rock You (Saul Swimmer's Commentary...definitely going to spark discourse!)
Highlander (at least the Queen-related portions maybe)

If the response is positive, I may get to these soon.

Yes I think it is a good idea.  For the AG bonus, QPL put the commentaries in an Adobe document.

Some of the DVDs have English subtitles but some have subtitles in foreign languages only.  The sound of some of commentaries are very muffled and I need to put my ear close to the TV speaker to hear them clearly.

Excellent idea.

And yes, very time-consuming to do.

Gr8.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

If the disc features subtitles, then there is probably a way of extracting them from the disc. This'll save you a lot of time, rather than transcribing them from scratch.

Anyway, excellent idea! I'd definitely be interested in reading these.

The subtitles often contain mistakes or ommissions, so they'd still have to be checked. All in all, the workload will remain large. I think it's a great idea, but the work'd have to be spread out over a number of people.

Very good idea.

Are those commentary tracks subtitled ? I must admit I have NEVER listened to them on any DVD :-)

If they are subtitled. rip the DVD to your hard disc with any ripping software, and then use SubRip for OCR-ing and saving to srt format

Good idea, and one I'd be happy to lend a hand with. If this works our perhaps we could broaden the scope of it and include interviews etc.

QZ needs people like Rhyeking and projects like this. We have Sir GH and Pittrek as our 'live' experts, people like John S Stuart and Adam Unger as our 'studio' experts; and something I've come to appreciate reading his threads is Rhyeking has a great knowlege of interviews and other things the band have said over the years.

The face that these people, and others, specalise in an area of knowledge is to the benefit of us all.

One of the best ideas I've heard in a long time. If I can help in any way, I'd be glad to.

Great idea !

GVH 1 annoyed me a lot as it didn´t include any subtitle and I always wanted to know what´s exactly said during the videoclip commentaries, the "Inside the Rhapsody" doc. with Brian, etc ... I mean, my english is good, but not that good !

There are countless poor nations like Mali, Ghana, and numerous other which are detesting the fundamental offices like clean water, instruction, and nourishment however. This is extremely urgent and http://oddculture.com/ask-help-6-reasons-stop-worrying-paper-works/ requires certain means.
