You decide which era of Queen is your favourite. It could be the early years or the 1980s, DISCO ERA.

Preferably I'd like to hear your opinions on the eras 1971-1981 and 1981 - 1997.

My favourite era would have to be the 1970s. Queen in the 1980s were a great live band and released many fantastic single but I think the Hot Space album completely changed the Queen sound, replaced by electtonic drums and drum machines. I'd wish that albums such as The Works and A Kind of Magic had more variety in the sound and musical styles. The same with Innuendo: songs like These are the Days of Our Lives, Innuendo, The Show Must Go On, Headlong and also I Can't Live With You/Bijou are in my opinion classic Songs but the rest of the songs on the album don't quite hit the heights. I mean, Innuendo really could have been an identical album to Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera, Day at the Races if the standard of a hand full of songs were higher.

i just love the fashion and how its so different to the modern world, its pure excapeism :)

and freddie's voice, i dont know what it was, but he seemed to lengthen it more, like he could be realy high and realy low in the same song, he was just so THERE!
listen to the prophets song, freddie's voice is so powerful!

Well, I've come to think of '70's Queen and 80's Queen as almost two different bands in a way, lol!

They went as far as they could in the '70's in that particular path that they were on...for them the change was just natural for the '80's.  They wanted to remain successful and "relevant" in the '80's.  In hindsight it seems like it was kind of a mistake.  But I really love most of what they did in the '80's.

They seemed to have "turned a corner" with Innuendo, though...and if Freddie had been healthy, who knows what would have come in the years afterward.  His vocals on the Innuendo album were his best since A Day At The Races, imo.
So many shades!

But...yeah...1973 thru 1982(YES! Hot Space was exciting and groundbreaking) is the best era of Queen...with Inuendo an interesting and heartbreaking caveat.

For me, from Queen until Jazz they were at their best.  Jazz still had some good songs but it felt like an end of an era. These years in my opinion were Queen at their best.

74 through 78. Sheer Heart Attack to Jazz. Five of the best albuims by anybody and they were prolific. The 80's was not without it's charms but in that period Queen became more of a singles band and I now very rarely listen to any of those albums. Innuendo was a partial return to form in '91.

If there was a "like" button for this post, I would click it!  For me, SHA, NATO and ADATR are Queen at their artistic best.  Incomparable.

From Queen II up to and including Day At The Races. The Game/Hot Space is probably my favorite live-era. Soundwise I really enjoy the production/mix of Made In Heaven and Cosmos Rocks. Very rich sound IMO. I'm no expert at all, but I wish every album sounded like that.
