Ok then, Riverdale.

Nope, haven't watched it either.
Anyway, this is a weird exchange of comments... I was only interested if anyone knew of any source having information about Prenter.

For what it's worth, I side with Prenter. He made a point after he was sacked / let go that during that time Freddie was cancelling so many interviews at the last minute (which greatly let the interviewer down and massively inconvenienced everyone) he simply just started not even bothering booking them. Just how when you know your boss / teacher inside out and can second guess them. That of course became a 'bad' thing when it reached the point that they needed a whipping boy.

Thank you for your thoughts, Dysan.
To be honest, I'm tired with the recent attitudes towards Prenter, like he was soooo bad that even discussing him should be tabooed.

I think anyone dealing with someone as erratic as Mercury undoubtably became was going to come out of it looking bad. Especially when the only people alive and commenting on it all now definitely had their own interests at stake.

Dysan if Freddie did cancel interviews that doesn't excuse Paul from selling Freddie's private life to the tabloids .
I believe the film has given him the villain tag because it seems a lot of people around the band and in the band felt he was a bad influence. They were there at the time so know more than us what was going on . It maybe a case of how the people looking in on Freddie at that time felt and how Freddie himself felt. It's clear Freddie and Paul were good mates for a long time and that Paul helped Freddie in the clubs with pick ups for the night.
For whatever reason Paul was let go from being an employee of Freddie but people have said that Freddie helped Paul out with money and a place to stay. It seems to me it didn't end badly from Freddies point of view.
The recent article in the newspaper by Pauls family suggests that Paul was desperate for money to fund medical treatment for himself and this is a factor as to why he sold the story.
Perhaps Paul's nose was out of joint because Freddie had decided to try and clean up his act and had settled with Jim. It's just a shame by then it was too late

He got sacked, he can do what he wants.

Dysan it's my understanding he was made redundant but yep anyone can do what they want but it doesn't make it right .
He was given a place to stay and money after he was let go so that speaks volumes about the state of his mind at that time, he took his help and still sold him out. I imagine Freddie would have continued to help him if he hadn't have sold him out.
It's was a long time ago and not worth pondering on now, what's done is done

Paul Prenter's nephew is married to a friend of mine, and he's only about 40 so he largely missed the drama, since he would only have been 10 or 11 when Prenter died. The family are publicly protective of Paul Prenter, of course, because let's face it, it's embarrassing to have a family member's name dragged through the dirt irregardless of what actually happened. However, he did apparently cause a lot of upset in the family, and turned his back on the family when he became involved with Queen and Elton John.

What I don't know is what triggered that. There was clearly a breakdown in communications in the family, that might have been to do with him coming out, or it might have been something else. Whatever happened, Paul Prenter was clearly quite broken inside - which is not an excuse for bad behaviour but it does shed light on it. If you add to that some drug fuelled parties, lots of alcohol, lots of sex, and the potential to make a lot of money, it's probably quite a toxic mix.

I don't know anything about whether his family were supportive of him at the time of his death, if there was any reconciliation, or whatever. I do know that there is a bit of embarrassment in the family over the Bohemian Rhapsody film, and that they realise that Prenter has been painted in a fairly accurate light.

I heard Paul would meet random guys in bars and tell them he wanted to make babies with them.
MisterCosmicc, where have you read this? I'd be interested in reading about Paul, as there is very little information about him and I'm trying to understand what kind of person he was.
It's no secret.

To be fair to Paul, if he'd said to guys he was sexually attracted to that he wanted to make babies with them or breed them, he wasn't saying anything that controversial for the time. Even today that kind of language is used on the gay scene in certain circles.
