Forgive me, I'm from Finland...But what is this "smokies" in my favourite Queen song? An actual club? I've googled the word and the song with all my might, but still haven't found the answer. Sometimes it's written with a capital "S", sometimes not, so I'm not sure if it's a name of a place...

Or is the word referring to "social situations where people smoke various things", in which case the capital S would be an error...

i've always presumed 'smokies' was an establishment, like a bar or cafe. ha ha ! - what was it Freddie said about interpreting the lyrics for yourself !

I think in the context of the song 'when we go down to Smokies and rock..' it is a diner/cafe, a meeting place for the yoof if you will...

I've always wondered (IF it's in fact a place) if such a place really existed or if Roger just came up with the name.

Smokies was a club Roger and Freddie frequented in the early days of the band,i cant remember where it was,i think more investigation is needed,i personally seem to recollect it being in london, but i could be a million miles from the truth of its location,so if some one can help, please do!!!

Thanks! At last I know that such a place actually existed and it wasn't just a name Roger came up with.
