WWRY vs. Rock Montreal Discoveries (11/24 and 11/25)

Recently gregsynth and I have been carefully examining both performances of Bohemian Rhapsody from the WWRY and Rock Montreal release of the 11/24 and 25 gig of 1981. We noticed on the WWRY video that part of the verses are sung differently than the Rock Montreal release (he hits different notes and his phrasing is slightly different). You could also see that the audio on the WWRY release that don't sound the same on the RM release don't match up with the video on the WWRY release. However, most of the verses actually do match up with both releases. The only lines that are different are the lines "life had just begun" and "but now I've gone and thrown it all away". On those two you could hear he hits flatter notes on the WWRY release. So what I came to conclusion is that on the WWRY release, they took the audio of some parts of the verses from the second night while still using the video from the 1st night.

Also, they took out the speaking line Freddie says at the end of the rock section out on the WWRY release and put it back in on the RM release.

Thoughts?

Possibly? I dont think the phrasing is different though, nor do I think the lines are from different nights. The only difference I can hear is that the word's 'just' and 'away' are slightly flat on WWRY. I think its more likely autotune.

I guess when re-mixing, Freddies vocal will have been isolated and anything very slightly off will have been corrected.

what does this matter? all bands touch up live perofrmances - some doctor them in the studio - which Queen has done, on Live Killers especially...

if there are blemishes and they are to release a product to the public, they wouldn't want to come off as sloppy - which to a non-queen fan would sound questionable.

one of the most obvious touch-ups in a released queen live concert is in the Milton Keynes concert - queen On Fire Live at the Bowl - listen to Fat Bottemed Girls...  when Freddie sings "locality".... now listen to it on the bootleg that's floating around... loooaaaa....aaaaacality..lol

People like to gain insight and knowledge. It obviously doesn't matter to you but other people like questing for the answers.

The phrasing's slightly different: Freddie cuts off notes slightly more on the WWRY release.

If Queen was definitely not the type of band that would use auto tune so I seriously doubt they used it. Yes there is still a possibility they used it but if this is true, don't you think they would have used it on another parts of the show where his vocals were just slightly out of tune?

Saul Swimmer, being the maniac he is could have taken some lines from different nights. I think we need Bob (SirGH) to come in on this.

Autotune has a fake sound to it, and there's not a chance that Queen would use it.

I otherwise have nothing to add to this thread.  Until we hear audience recordings of both nights, we'll never know exactly which parts were overdubbed and which weren't... we can only make educated guesses.

There was just a really good thread about this a few weeks back, and Bad Seed was our star researcher if I recall correctly..

Bob: If it's not autotune, what could it be? It has to be from another night because Freddie wasn't alive in 2007 to overdub the song. I have a feeling it's from the second night because the phrasing is slightly different.

But maybe overdubs were done for WWRY release and on RM we hear real Freddie's voice from concert?

Yes but why would Freddie overdub something that was already perfect and make it sound worse. There aren't any studio overdubs on any part of borhap on any of the releases but a few lines in the phrases are sung differently which makes me think a), they either used autotune, or b), Saul Swimmer decided to take it from the following night.

I always preferred the WWRY DVD as far as Boh Rhap goes. The first time I heard the explosion in 5.1 with full volume, I nearly suffered from a heart attack. It was beautiful.
