Lists are pretty pointless, but you're being kind by giving Axl the tenth spot. I could come up with ten more singers that deserve that position (if not a higher one).

I wasn't sure if the headline meant that Freddie Mercury achieved second spot in a great singer poll, or one of Freddie's number 2's had made it onto the poll. Frankly, I would rather listen to one of Freddie's number 2's than Axl Rose.

Yeah, I see your point. But to redeem myself, I too feel lists are pretty pointless. It´s more about what you like and the emotional attachments you might have to a artist or a band. And on that note, 10th place could just as easily belong to Lemmy or Zakk Wylde...

Axl Rose better lead singer than Freddie Mercury? I don't think so, in actual fact I think all of those on that list are greater than Axl Rose myself
