Was Freddie aware that he had a moustache in 1980 ?

It's obvious from pictures and he should have wondered why people were throwing Bic Razors onto the stage during the US game tour but did he know ?

I don't think he did. You see, a moustache can just happen - like breasts, or puberty. It probably didn't sink in until about 1986, when it was too late to do anything about it. The hair just kept growing, and BICS weren't as advanced then as they are now. You know, if it wasn't for that 'tash, Freddie would have been alive today. It's a well known fact that AIDS grows quicker in a moustache. Luckily, Domestos kills 99.9% of these germs nowadays, but it was too late for Fred by then.

Who gave him the moustache though? He had many friends with moustaches. Might it have been one of them?

I read somewhere that he felt more comfortable with the moustache due to his teeth - the moustache camouflaged this a litttle bit!

I think it's a great question, and not at all clear. Does anyone recall when he was alleged to have smashed his mirror over that poor chap's head?

The 'tash actually dates back to the early 70s, and some sources suggest he got it from Brian. I simply do not wish to speculate on such matters, but you can make up your own mind by checking the back of the Queen 1 LP sleeve.
Either that, or it was a man made 'tash, invented by the US government to rid the world of the homosexual community (ooohh, controversial....).

Freddie had a moustache? I never seen that, is it a photo that was edited?

Wouldn't you feel it if you had a moustache though? I have no idea. Somebody should write Victoria Beckham and ask.

Good point. So Brian knew as early as 1973 that he had a tache, and he may have passed it onto Fred at that point, but it took until 1980 for it to appear. The hairs on Fred's tache started ingrowing some time around 1984/5 and Fred died from a tache-related infection in 1991. Aside from one short period of remission, at the Bejart ballet performance, and also on the Barcelona video, Fred had been suffering from tache for most of the 1980s.

Yes, he did - it started off as the follicle virus, but by 1980 it was a full blown moustache.

Actually, the 'tash was still a-rou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ound for these performances, but was carefully edited out because the News Of The World and Sun were becoming suspicious. It wasn't until 1991 that he had to give in to the conjecture surrounding his follicle health. FTD's, such a folliculitis, are no laughing matter and I hope that this thread does not turn into some sort of sick joke.

People will blame Jim Hutton as usual, but I'm quite sure he got it form Mary Austin.
