I'm pretty sure that John was aware that he played bass in a rock group at least part of the time.

Of course he had to be shielded from certain information, such as mileage, altitude, crowd size, and other subjects involving variable numbers.

David, fatty is taking the piss out of those other threads that have sprung up recently (the likes of "Was Brian aware he had a guitar" and "Was Roger aware he had blond hair", etc) and not out of John.

And to answer fatty's question - yes he was more aware. John is omnipresent in the world of Queen.....
