Indeed, proving that better copies are in the archive. This is cut from one of the 2 normally criculated appearances. I haven't got the broadcast dates to hand but I'm sure someonel else can supply these?

"The 3rd version is where Freddie can be seen wearing his half black / half white costume and with Brian in white 'Queen 2' style white jacket and scarf. This is the version where Dave Lee Travis comes on stage with the band during Brian's solo dressed as a cleaner pushing a brush! "

This is what Freddie was wearing on that short snippet on the "Killer Queen" doco from about 10 years ago, is it the same footage? The snippet is often said to be Prestons '73.

Who started that Preston 73 rumour, anyway?  The footage is likely from Japan 75.

Yes the angle is almost the same that Killer Queen in japon 75. just  pro-shot recorded down from the audience.
I`m almost sure i`ve got a tape with Seven seas from TOTP but if i remember well is the same Higher generation quality.

Cheers!

DLT supplied to QPL the edition featuring himself from a copy of the show he had in his private collection. This is an excellent copy which is best described as being somewhere between black and white, and colour in appearance.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the 3rd version. The footage in the trailer isn't from that DLT version though. It is clearly from one of the other versions that can be found on YouTube (the take without the audience) and all versions I've seen are black and white at that point in the song. Good to know that however they have it, at least they do have it in better quality in the archive. I hope they hurry up and release all three takes somewhere. The re-issue of Queen II would have been the most appropriate place, but we already have the tracklist for that and there's no video content on the discs - unless it is planned to be one of the iTunes exclusive downloads. I'd prefer to have it in higher quality than a download, but maybe the resolution of the copies they have is considered too bad for DVD release....

I took another look at the footage from the Killer Queen documentary, with Freddie in the half-black/half-white outfit, I still think the footage is earlier than Japan 1975..just judging by Freddie's hair (if not the stage setup).  His hair was much frizzier and drier looking at those '75 Japan shows and here it still looks smoother/shinier as in the earlier days. He also looks younger.

When I have time I will try and post some stills from the DLT version. Indeed it would be nice to see this released and I'm sure it will surface at some point.

I would also like to see the TOTP version of We are the champions released which in my opinion, is far superior to the official release.

Or you could post it to youtube if you have it? :-)

I's like to see Now I'm Here TOTP clip.  That's never surfaced, not even in B&W.  Just a couple of stills.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh. A great big NIH carrot for us!
It would certainly be nice to see these once lost performances in good quality. :)

Would you be able to answer my question about the dates in the "Live At The Rainbow" thread? (in Serious Discussion).

Thanks Gary
