I agree. The other thing is that it makes those who have no partner feel guilty. They feel unloved, lonely and made to feel guilty for not being in a relationship on the 'most romantic' day of the year.

I can honestly say I have never felt this way ever on any Valentine's Day in the history of me. As hard as getting over people can be, being in no relationship is incalculably preferable to being in the wrong relationship, and all a single Valentine's Day has ever meant for me was half price chocolate on the 15th.
I also wanted to mention to you that I was thinking about you last evening, oddly enough. :) I went to see Heart in concert, (Heart on Valentine's Day - see how they did that there? ha ha) and I was thinking about you mentioning on the board that 'Alone' was one of your favourites. So I resigned to record it for you! But my camera had about 5% battery left, because I can be really stupid that way. So I crossed my fingers and used my cell phone and in the end it was a completely inaudible screeching, hissing, unlistenable mess. As was 'Crazy on You' and 'Barracuda' which I attempted to record for myself. Dam Lampinski I am apparently not.
Anyway, the show was fanstastic. Those women have not lost a note, and they both sound exactly like they did 30 years ago. The only video up on YouTube from the concert so far happens to be 'Alone', from someone far less moronic than I at taping. Check it out!

I haaaaaaaate seeing girls demasculinize their boyfriends on Valentine's Day. It makes me sick. I must agree with what TQ said....
I was surprised my boyfriend even said happy Valentine's Day to me this year...last year I don't think he even realized what day it was. I don't like seeing people feel like they are obligated to buy flowers or cute teddy bears or go out for dinner, or else face the wrath of a pissed off chick saying "you must not love me." I wasn't expecting any gifts this year, seeing as last year, a few days after Valentine's I received an empty box of chocolates (with no hard feelings I must add...it was somewhat of a joke....I'm a health nut and he was like "I ate your chocolates so you wouldn't have to")...Not only did I get a "Happy Valentine's Day" this year...he bought me a bolo knife, which I must say---I am pretty happy about, and I ended up getting him some Nazi Germany WWII documentaries...I don't like falling into conventions. It just doesn't feel special getting a box of chocolates because that's what "you're supposed to do." Nothing feels meaningful if someone is forced into doing it, which is why I never force anyone into doing anything, any day of the year, even if something is bothering me. And I don't like so many people overdoing it with PDA. But that's just a side note. :-P
However, Valentine's Day is special to me in a way, because it's my mom's birthday. :-)

Holy crap people. Being sentimental is not a character flaw. If V-Day traditions are not important to the people in a relationship then there's no issue. But if they're important or meaningful to one and the other can't or won't connect with that, that's an opportunity lost. Whether it's Valentine's Day or somebody dreaming about birthday sex all day long, the other half can certainly 'win' that battle if they want by simply opting out or opting in so begrudgingly that all the happiness is sucked out, but what did they win exactly? Probably something like a disappointed, hurt partner and a squandered chance to connect with them in a time and place and way that was meaningful to them. Congratulations, I guess. Many elements of a relationship benefit from negotiation, equity, consensus, etc., but sometimes the first few steps of anything just have to be about the other guy.

I guess living in Australia, where Valentine's Day isn't a so relevant, being single isn't a big deal. However, I have a few friends who live in America, and while it's not like in the movies (where single people on Valentine's Day are made to feel like criminals), they do feel a little depressed being single. Stil I definitely agree that it is better to be single than to be in a bad relationship.
BTW, I have an ex-girlfriend who has vowed never to again accept a date on Valentine's Day. Every Valentine's Day date she has gone on has been disasterous. I suspect it's partly because she adores the holiday so has expectations that can never be fulfilled.

Wow! I'm so flattered! :D :D :D
"I went to see Heart in concert, (Heart on Valentine's Day - see how they did that there? ha ha)"
:D A perfect choice!
"and I was thinking about you mentioning on the board that 'Alone' was one of your favourites."
It is indeed. :D
"So I resigned to record it for you!"
I can't believe that. That's extraordinary!

You're not the only person who does things like that, I'm pretty bad with technology myself. I have to say that I am so incredibly flattered that you would try doing something like that.
"Anyway, the show was fanstastic. Those women have not lost a note, and they both sound exactly like they did 30 years ago."
I'm very envious. I can imagine that it would have been a great show. I'm really happy that you enjoyed the show. :D
There are certain artists whom I would love to see (such as Heart), however it has been years since they've come to Australia, if they've done so at all.
"The only video up on YouTube from the concert so far happens to be 'Alone', from someone far less moronic than I at taping. Check it out!"
Amazing. They haven't changed at all! :D

^ It was more a battery charging procrastination issue than it was a bad with tech issue. :) Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the clip.
