Hello everybody. I have to tell you that i'm very surprised (In a good way) that Queen will release a non-hits compilation.
I think it's a good idea. We all tired of re-re-re-release of Greatest Hits and Absolute Greatest and i think this could be a turning point in futures Queen releases.
But (as allways) i think they could done better with the tracklist of this compilation. Don't get me wrong, i thing it's a good tracklist, but a little bit short. If wasme i made a 16 tracks in each cd and for this particular one i would add "Death on two legs" and "Brighton Rock".
I don't know what you all think about that but i would like to read your opinions, your tracklist for Vol. 1 and if it's possible what song song do you peek for Deep Cuts Vol. 2 and Vol. 3.
Cheers everybody

So it's good that Queen won't re-release the hits but it IS good to re-release other stuff already available?

It´s just less worse....

I think that this Deep Cuts could be a sucessfull!! around 1991-1992 but at this time....the only expected value added could be the "stand-alone" versions of Ogre Battle and March Of The Black Queen....and maybe SHA medley either. But then, i think that there is no reason to buy this compilations.

I seriously don't understand who do they expect will buy it.

The old fans - why ? They have bought all these songs at least 4 times already
The new fans - which new fans ?
The collectors - why would they do it ?

Well, the mp3 downloaders maybe will download it

I just thnk is better than the re-re-re-releases of Greatest Hits.
And maybe this could be a turning point in the future releases, i don't know but i hope this coul be, that's all.
And yes, there allways people and fans who going to buy it, liked or not, is just the things are.
But overall is better than nothing right? If they didn't release nothing we were all were disscussing what a crappy band they were. And with this deep cuts we allways have an alternative Queen compilation to hear and to had in our collection
Cheers

I personally hope these Deep Cuts compilations do well as Queen may realize that average Joe is ready for a Live DVD with Queen's original singer (moustache-less Freddie) and eventually release it.

Of course, i wont be buying this, having these songs available in Vinyl, Cd and mp3, but its interesting nonetheless.
I do, however, agree with the earlier comment that there's no selling point for this, other than the most avid of collectors..but even among them, ive been hearing the idea of boycotting it.

Now the tracklist itself, i like, however, few little niggling things, most blatant being 'I'm In Love With My Car', 'Stone Cold Crazy' and 'Keep Yourself Alive'. These tracks were already released on 'Queen Rocks', why release them again? 'Drowse' should have been placed on instead of 'I'm In Love With My Car', it's seriously underrated, and actually shows that Roger was, in fact, an excellent songwriter when the material warented it. Instead of 'Keep Yourself Alive', why not 'Great King Rat' or 'Liar' two of the most important early Queen songs in their career. And instead of 'Stone Cold Crazy', 'White Queen(As It Began). It should have been essential that if Black Queen was released, white Queen should have too, and vice versa.

Why release it? OK, it's a different release than the constant greatest hits, but true fans will easily have the album tracks about three times over already. But we desperately need a Queen revival - where's the new crop of fans? Wavering in loyalty. And what's with the title? DEEP CUTS? Yeah, right. A true 'deep cuts' CD would have a rare outtake from each album's sessions. Polar Bear from the debut sessions, Nevermore electric piano version, a 1974 outtake of Sheer Heart Attack from when it would have been a title track, the originial piano demo of GSTQ, the earliest version of Let Me Live w/Rod Stewart (if it even exists), Feelings, Feelings, the rumoured early take of Coming Soon, the 1980 demo of Beautiful Day (I am craving to hear this...), HS version of Man Made Paradise, the August 1984 version of Let Me In Your Heart Again, Butterfly (which you can hear during a clip of Magic Years), I Guess We're Falling Out and a trimmed down version of Face It Alone which embodies all the best bits from that demo. And if they exist, the Brian and Roger vocal demos of Mother Love so a special hybrid Fred/Bri/Rog version could be made to make it akin to the released version of Let Me Live.

Why release it? To get newcomers and casual ("I have their Greatest Hits, what else do I need?") fans to take a look at the album tracks. The content itself is up for debate, but keep in mind we're experienced Queen fans, knowledgeable on every album and the different 'periods' of the band. Imagine a person walking into the store, knowing only "Another One The Bites The Dust," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Bohemian Rhapsody." They pick up Greatest Hits, but also see this other CD in amongst the stacks. Not wanting yet to commit to buys the albums yet, the person picks up Deep Cuts and thinks, "Okay, some period album tracks they say are good too. Why not?" and buys it. This could well lead to them exploring the parent albums and thus inducting a new fan into the ranks.

Those naysayers who think this probably won't happen, well, at the risk of sounding like poorly-written commercial, it did work on me. I knew only a few Queen songs ("Rhapsody," "One Vision" and "Radio Ga Ga" ) when I bought Classic Queen on cassette in 1992. I did know WWRY, WATC and AOBTD, but never put together that it was the same band until soon after. Classic Queen is a mix of Hits and album tracks and when it's almost all new to you, you don't make the distinction.

Collections aren't for hardened fans, generally, they're for new fans, made to draw them in and hopefully get them interested in the music. For us, it's little more than an exercise is seeing what songs make the Deep Cuts and which don't.

And really, when we were younger, who here didn't make a few mix CDs and mix tapes for their friends in order to get them to hear what we thought were the great songs by Queen, hits or not? I know I did.

I don't know if this has been widely reported, but I've just read from Rhythm magazine that Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) helped Brian and Roger compile the tracklisting for the Deep Cuts album.

I think this release is a great idea.  It will undoubtedly expose a lot of people to Queen's great album tracks from the 70s.

The average person won't buy the first 6 albums, but they will certainly buy one disc with more obscure album tracks.  Of course, for the bigger fans it's a no go, but for the man on the street this may help them realize that there was more to the band than the few big hits.  The track selection is excellent.

If and when the boxed set comes out, I'm sure the complainers will be out in full force squawking about a few omissions, and the fact that it was only 20 discs and not 30.
