Just saw this on Amazon UK http://www.amazon.co.uk/Queen-2-Shm-CD/dp/B004HHARSM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1299014184&sr=8-2
What exactly is a SHM CD? And why the hell is it £30... anyone got any already released SHM's to tell whether they're any better? Reading that it's compatible with normal CD players, it can't be that much better, surely?

It's the Blu-Ray of CDs! Taken from the cdjapan website:
"The high quality SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head"
They're all expensive as they are Japanese imports.

In reality, though, it's just the same audio quality on a disc that is a little more hard-wearing than a regular cd.
