Brian May to receive Eddy Christiani Award

Vlissingen - British guitarist Brian May is set to receive the Eddy Christiani-award on April 23 in Vlissingen. Brian May is known for being Queen's guitarist.

The award is an annual prize awarded by Poppunt Zeeland to a guitarist who has inspiringly contributed to the development of music for the electric guitar.

Former winners of the Eddy Christiani-award include Dutchmen Leendert Haaksma, Ad Vandenberg and Jan Akkerman. Belgian Dany Lademacher has also received the award. Last year's winner was American guitarist Steve Lukather (Toto)

If his health allows it, 92-year old Eddy Christiani himself will attend the ceremony on April 23.

Note: Eddy Christiani is one of the earliest Dutch electric guitarist. Sadly, the kind of music he played/plays was/is absolutely horrible (he plays the Dutch counterpart of German Schlager).

We can assume, for the moment, that this award will be kept in the same disused lavatory as all of Brian's photos of Paul Rodgers.

IMHO, Brian will probably be jumping with joy. Any media attention, even by some half-arsed local joint like this, gives him a chance to plug his musical & upcoming releases. I'm a cynic, I know.

Eddy's son Danny Christian(i) is an incredible singer. Maybe there should be an award for singers as well. LOL

Catch yerself on man, Tim Staffel was Freddie's favourite singer. 

Not being funny, but have you noticed any similarity between Tim's voice and that of Paul Rodgers? (Especially on the "Amigo" album...).

5 km from my hometown, so I think it's great (although I concurr with the remark he probably only does it to plug the musical and new releases).

btw, does anyone know what Brian is doing in the Royal Albert Hall in the near future?
Does he play there with Kerry Ellis?

reason for asking is that a friend of mine (from a local observatory wrote him and invited Brian over, but he stated he was very busy preparing two nights at the Royal Albert Hall, besides the Kerry Ellis tour. I'm not into actual Brian stuff, so I wonder what these concerts are? Something related to Queen?

I think Brian is taking a little holiday. He will arrive with Anita april 22 by plane. And has personal programm for the day. Including taking a look at a very famous dutch statue, Brian will spent the whole day in the provence of Zeeland sightseeing.

I was one of the lucky persons with tickets. Only a handfull of tickets were soldto the general public.

This morning a already saw soem tickets with outragerous prices on ebay.

Hmm what a coincidence. On the Dutch forum Queenvrienden someone posts exactly the same information about Brian landing a day earlier. Just got back.

Brian performed Don't Stop Me Now, his guitar solo (a short version, probably 4 mins or so) and Tie Your Mother Down along with Dutch band Van Velzen, who also performed some other tracks such as Save Me and Somebody To Love. The rest of the evening had Jan Akkerman playing a couple of songs (No Sylvia unfortunately) and some mediocre performances by artists whose name I even can't remember.

Unbelievable feeling to see Brian perform his solo in front of 600/700 people, 2 metres away from you :)
