“We aimed for the top slot and we were not going to be satisfied with anything less.” Freddie Mercury

This week sees Queen's first five albums re-released with bonus tracks across Europe, South America and Asia.

Order Queen's first five albums through Amazon, HMV , Play.com and iTunes.

One of the most exciting and influential back catalogues of all time. Recorded in the maelstrom of the early 1970’s London music scene Queen created a groundbreaking and unique soundtrack that remains globally influential today. Theatrical, imaginative, diverse, melodic and unpredictable they had a sound and a look all of their own. Sitting alongside their contemporaries like Led Zep and David Bowie, Queen set the standard for British rock in the 1970’s and became one of the most thrilling, glamorous and downright rock n roll bands of all time, directly influencing a contemporary roll call of artists from Foo Fighters & Axl Rose to Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.

“Queen”, “Queen II”, “Sheer Heart Attack”, “A Night At The Opera” and “A Day At The Races” have been specially re-mastered and each is being released as a standard CD as well as a deluxe 2 disc set which will feature new bonus content. Each deluxe album has also been released on iTunes featuring bonus tracks plus additional sleeve notes, unseen pictures and videos.

From the pure raw rock of “Queen” through to the majestic anthems on “A Day At The Races”, the first five albums highlight the diverse talent, musical ambition and already global success of a band made up of some of the best songwriters, musicians and performers of all time.

Also released this week is Deep Cuts: Vol. 1 (1973-1976). Digging deeper into the Queen catalogue Deep Cuts is a bespoke collection of hidden gems from the band's first five albums.

I don't know about the 18th - they had the re-issues in HMV in Limerick yesterday.

They had the double disc editions of all five except Queen 1.

They were €13.99 for the single and €16.99 for the double.

I picked up each one, looked at them and then put them back.

It's sad when you think how excited we used to be when we'd go into the record shop looking for a new Queen album.

Yours in reason,

Aw.  They're not going to be released in Canada. So sad!

(Starting a marketing campaign by treating Canada like the 51st American state is not great business.  It generally REALLY annoys us.)

Edit:  Just left this comment on the Press Release at QOL:

Is this organization aware that Canada is it's very own country with borders and everything? Canada is constantly being rolled in with the USA when it comes to QPL, and it makes you look dumb and lazy.

May seem petulant, but fellow Canucks will understand. ;)

It's like an international disease.  The other day I saw a People magazine article on Prince William and Kate Middleton's announced trip to Canada headlined "Prince William & Kate Middleton: Coming To North America!".

Yeah it's fairly messed up that we in the States dont get to see anything until May sometime, and nothing for Canada...

It would be slightly less annoying if Canada actually weren't getting the releases.  We are, we're just supposed to understand that  Canada = USA.  Canada being the country that has kept Greatest Hits on it's Hard Rock charts every week without fail since the inception of the chart 15 or 20 years ago.  It's like how the Germans have to look up the release dates for France to know when they're going to be landing on the store shelves in Berlin.  Not.

The earlier news item stated release dates for "US & North America" which of course includes Canada. North America is the name of the continent for those of you who weren't aware. Still, I don't know why they couldn't just say US & Canada or just North America.

And anybody can order the imports on Amazon (although it's sometimes cheaper to order straight from amazon.co.uk).

Hollywood probably wasn't planning on releasing the re-issues here until the last minute. That seems to account for the later date and the fact that it wasn't announced until recently.

I know exactly how you feel - it's the same with the yanks thinking that all of Britain is England.  I recently made a purchase from www.rockaway.com  and when my parcel arrived, the envelope read:

Mr J Gilchrist
(my address)
Glasgow
England
G3

Absolutely shocking.

I have a similar problem with people who think Mexico is in South America when, geographycally, most of the mexican surface is part of North America. The south eastern part of Mexico can be considered a part of Central America but certainly NOT SOUTH AMERICA! hehe :)

Hah! You guys should try living in South Africa a while, being lumped in with the rest of the "dark continent." It may be annoying to lumped in with the USA, but at least it's not the damn Congo or Zimbabwe...

That being said, we're on the release list, so I suppose I'll savor the moment... :p
