Music is getting bad without Freddie

Well, I've thought about it recently. Doesn't it seem to you that music has started turning into shit since Freddie died? Just listen to anything till 1991. Nah, I'm not trying to say that Freddie was responsible for music of the whole world, but old music was great compared to the current shit. That says Freddie was a king of rock and the music itself.

Horse shit, I'm sorry to say.  There's been some great music since 1991; you just weren't paying attention.  Look harder - it is there to be found.  Just don't rely on the radio or on iTunes ...

i have to disagree. i think that there has ALWAYS been sh*t music...and tons of it. this is because the definition of music as sh*t is subjective. therefore, unless your musical taste covers a very wide spectrum then a lot will appear sh*t-like.

let's examine your comment/observation in isolation:
the inference is that music was great until 1991. no it wasn't.
as bad as the manufactured xfactor type stuff can be generally, it does produce some rare gems. this was also true of the 80s "hit factory" (stock/aitken/waterman) - most of it was utterly disposable but even i (who hated it) will admit there were gems. the last two decades have been no better or worse than the 80s for sh*t music.

personally, i would say that most of the bands i like came to prominence during the 70s, so by default the 70s should be "best"...but being objective - the 60s was where music took off the shackles, the 70s just evolved the process..mainly because many of the aritists of the 70s were inspired by the 60s and even served their musical apprenticeships during the 60s.....queen, the who, purple, elo, springsteen

sorry to drone on, but in final answer to your question.....the 80s was much worse than the two decades since freddie's death......

in the 20 years sicne his death these bands have really impressed me.......pearl jam, foo fighters, killers, kings of leon, train, saw doctors, green day, nickelback...and coutless more

If anything, there is far more good music around now than there was in 1991.  Now that record companies and distribution aren't required to get your music out there, good music is aplenty.  The music business is in a far better state than it was 10 or 20 years ago.

i have to point out that Queen's last number one single in the UK before Freddie died was knocked off the top spot by..."do the bartman",if that doesnt put an end to this discussion nothing will..

There always has been and always will be 'bad' music, imo.  And from what i've observed, it seems each generation thinks that the next generation's music is crap.  :)
*i am a generation behind in my taste though, i like the same music as my uncles, and there are those who do like a different generation's music, but in general this is what i've seen :)

We can end discussion at this point, but the thing that I wanted to say is that there is less of good music nowadays days than it was earlier. I do agree, there are much of good bands and great hits being appeared now, but it was better earlier, IMO.
Btw, Stock/Aitken/Waterman were creating great pop music back in the 80's.

There's a ton of great music happening these days - most of it just isn't heard in mainstream media, where they play the same 50 songs over and over again.. written by the same 20 people and marketed by the same 10 people.

From a variety of genres, everything from pop to rap to jazz to progressive rock to neo-classical electronica to space to intelligent dance music ...

Adele, My Chemical Romance, Vampire Weekend, Sufjan Stevens, The Roots, The Black Keys, The National, The New Pornographers, Morcheeba, Hooverphonic, K'naan, K-os, Metric, Secret Garden, Pat Metheny, Muse, Buckethead, Dream Theater, Transatlantic, Luke Vibert, Squarepusher, Steve Roach, Robert Rich, David Parsons

Slash's last record was great, and so was Hanson's.  Remember them?  They're still at it.  Yes' new record is brilliant too - like Close To The Edge meets Drama.  It's probably their best record in 25 years.  Jeff Beck's last couple records were excellent ... he's dabbling into electronica now.  Page and Clapton are resting on their laurels (well, Page is just plain resting), but Beck is the last man standing, constantly innovating.

Look at the lineup of the Coachella festival, which is probably the biggest music festival in the US.  Very few of the artists are considered "mainstream", but people turned up in the tens of thousands to see them.

Some people don't see past Lady Gaga and Usher, but some people do.  Good music is everywhere.  Just look for it.  The internet has made music of all shapes and colours so amazingly accessible.
