The funeral helps you to rationalize the loss, Peter. Yes, it is tough but after it the healing begins. You will always miss your mum but the pain will go away. It sounds so cheap but the actual truth is that time is on your side when you lose a parent. After a while the pain simply gets less and you are left with all the good memories.

Barb's right. It took me quite a while to overcome the sad last few months of a friend's life where he was at his most miserable with the throat cancer that eventually got him, until at some I could really appreciate and easily recall the good times without first thinking of the sad last moments I'd seen him in.

Peter, my deepest sympathies. I wish you and the rest of your family a long life.
