Is it true that Freddie got inspired by 10CC's Une Nuit A Paris to write a rock opera himself?

Un Nuit A Paris is a fantastic song in it's onw right, but I always thought the idea was already there in March Of The Black Queen... which came a year before UNAP so maybe 10cc got the idea from Freddie?

An interesting thread from late last year. I too have heard the attribution of Bo Rap to Une Nuit A Paris. But the fact that Queen 2, including March of the Black Queen, came before ANAP certainly does suggest to me that you can't give too much credit to 10CC for Queen's greatest song.
However I also think the opposite is also true. I think the suggestion that UNAP was derived from Queen 2 is wrong. An influence? Mayebe. 10CC were an incredibly creative band and didn't need to go copying other bands. I mean I'm Not In Love is on the same album as Une Nuit A Paris. That says it all to me. Both bands are great.
On that other point of discussion, I think the reason that Queen and Bowie are remembered much more than 10CC, despite some incredible albums in the 1970's, is simply because Queen and Bowie had a lot more Staying Power, whereas the original 10cc split after "How dare You" in the mid 70's. That wasn't Gouldman's fault, but as master marathon runner said that was the way the croissant crumbled (sadly).
