This is from the Steve Jobs thread-
If the workers are really exploited, I am sure the Chinese government would do something about it - they won't leave it to Apple to act on it and claim credit for doing the world good.
This reminded me of an incident that happened some 5 years ago. I was working in the IT helpdesk of a big global telecom company and it was my job help employyes of the company with issues with their IT equipement - laptops, desktops, network, etc. The company also provided its employees the option to work from home by using VPN.Once an employee from China contacted me because he could not connect to VPN from home. He was at the office when he called, so after I was through with solving the issue, we decided that when he goes home, he would try to connect and see if it works now. So the next day i contacted him to follow-up, and he said in a very matter-of-fact way that he did not go home the previous day because he had not finished his work. first i thought he was kidding, but then he mentioned that it ha been almost 48 hours since he had slept. I got the impression that this was a routine thing.
If this is how it is for a white-collar educated prfessional, what do you expect for a lowly labourer?

I have visited many foundries in China and am unaware of anything approaching routine 48 hour "shifts". I would think that anything over 12 hours would be uncommon.
To be honest, this sounds like stereotypical Japanese employees.

in the late 70s, slighty after Jobs and Wozniak started selling the Apple I out of their garage, Steve Jobs came up with an even bigger invention... Unfair Working Conditions in China.
