1. There is an obvious edit in the guitar solo. The tone changes noticibly near the start..

not sure bout that, but freddie's voice def seems to crack at around 2.10 as he goes higher?

Also at 2.42 in the lead vocal only track, what is the funny wee "min" part he sings for?

The first set of harmonies are amazingly tight when you listen to it accapella. In fact the entire song has some of their best harmonies in my opinion

Love the "Cow Bell"  at 1:05  on the percussion track. It's lost a bit under the piano on the original mix.
Joyful the sound

Battery is compressed beyond belief (the bass drum seems muffled) and John's bass is too dark ... those bad taste decisions caused an album which in the Queen catalog is the one with the worst production, without any doubt... pity that there are truly deserving pieces of music, with a better production it would have been surely a different story.

The drums - agreed. The bass, you're wrong. I agree that it isn't exactly *beautiful*, but the way it's been mixed (with nearly all the low-end stripped off, so 'dark' isn't really the right term) is the only way to make it stand out from the piano without filling up the mix too much.

I'd say it is down to the Foxx phaser. It doesn tend to affect some notes of a lead depending on when exactly the phase sweep hits.
There is discussion as to whether the lead was played using the Deacy or the AC30. It would be easy to say it was the Deacy due to the compressed tone but it's a tough one.

Interesting to hear these kinda files. Like the duff notes in the piano part. The extra yeahs etc from BM during the chorus harms are nice.Sounded like they enjoyed themselves recording them. I wonder if Fred was going to sing "...me now...." at that point?

A great example of Roger's 'open hi hat on the snare' technique. Although sometimes I don't know how open Roger wants the hi hat to be?!

I'd say that there is definitely an edit in the guitar solo, as the "Long Lost Guitars" version on the bonus ep has the solo starting off the same, and then changing at the edit point. I guess they wanted the best of two takes.

Working on a remix for the competition, I noticed that Freddie hits a bad piano note at about 1:56. It's literally the note he plays for the word "speed" (as in "travelling at the *speed* of light!"). It kept making me cringe, so I swapped it out with the earlier performance of the same note from the first bridge. I know it's sacrilege to *fix* Freddie's playing, but it was too noticeable in my mix and there was no way to cover or bury it.

Freddie's playing seems to be pretty spot on, I can only notice that one mistake. Are there many more?
Johns bass is interesting, because of the level of high end on it, you can really hear him slapping the fret board and the his runs sound as if he isn't striking the strings properly.

Just try sending that bass track through a good bass distortion effect (real or virtual)! I rarely like distorted bass, but I think it'd really work here!
