Hi everyone!

Quick question, is anybody planning on going to L.A. to try and catch a glimpse of Roger Taylor on Dec. 5th for the Queen Extravaganza finals? I live in Central CA and would love to go down there, even if it's just for a quick autograph. Does anyone have any information on where the finals are supposed to be held?

Thanks!

I live in the Santa Monica area and I was thinking the same thing. Though, I'd kinda also like to watch the finals. Any idea where it's gonna be help and if we can get tickets?

Hey guys,

I'm a guitar contestant in this, currently in the 2nd round.  As far as I understand it, the finals are not for a public audience, but they haven't made it totally clear yet.  Just that it will be for the judging panel, which will include Roger.  They also haven't said where in LA it will be.  If I hear more, I'll fill you guys in.

And jamster1111, I'm in the same area as you!  Oh, and I'd really appreciate if you guys take a look at my entry & give me a vote if you like it!  Here's a direct link to my entry:

Steve, congrats on making it to the second round! I saw your audition, and you were great! Please, if you do hear anything about where the finals are going to be held, let us know. One thing I can tell you guys is that I wrote to the Queen Fan Club, and they said that even they don't know where exactly the finals are going to be held, only that it's supposed to be at one of the top band rehearsal sites in Los Angeles. I also read in an article that it's supposed to take place at a recording studio. Now, I was poking around on the internet, and I found the website for Swing House in Hollywood, which seems like it might be a really likely candidate, and it's also around the corner from the Record Plant where Queen recorded The Works. What do you guys think? You're more familiar with the area than I am.

Thanks!  I'm on the other side of town, near the Venice border.  Great weather today, huh?! :-)

Thank you, Carrie!
There are lots of suitable studios around town, so it'd be hard to know.  My bets would be on a couple in the the San Fernando Valley area, possibly Third Encore or Center Staging, where a lot of big acts rehearse shows before going on the road.  But that's just a guess, not based on any knowledge.  I'll certainly keep you posted on anything I might find out, but of course, if I don't make the finals, I probably won't know either!

Thanks Kevin, too!

Ah so kind of near the Santa Monica Civic Center where Queen played in 1975 and 1976? :) And indeed it was. To bad I didn't get to experience most it of because I was at school which is near Mullholland which was hot.

Just to update the original question, Roger did an interview on LA radio on 11/14 to discuss the QE.  He let slip that the final auditions will be at the Foo Fighter's studio in the San Fernando Valley.  It is not something that is open to the public, but he also mentioned the possibility of it streaming on the internet.

You can download a podcast of the interview here:

Good job. Skillfully played and it looks like you're having fun, which is half the battle.

And if you ever give up the guitar you could make a living as a Ronnie James Dio impersonator!

Good luck.

Hey Steve,

Thank you so much for the link to the Roger Taylor interview. I can't believe he said not once, but TWICE, that they're going to be holding the final auditions at the Foo Fighters studio!! Okay, so I looked this up, and I'm assuming it's their studio called 606? I looked up the location, and somebody said that it was at the corner of Florence and Normandie, but when I looked on Google, I couldn't see it. Do you, or does anybody, know where the studio is exactly? All I want to do is stand outside and see if it might be possible to get Roger's autograph.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Wishing you luck for the 30th!

Okay, just looked into the location a bit further. I found some posts on the Foo Fighters message board that said the address is 8721 Darby Ave. in Northridge. Does this sound right??

-Carrie Hi Carrie,
I don't know at all where it is, but Northridge is in the San Fernando Valley, so that could be right.  I can say with certainty that it's not Florence & Normandie, that is an infamous intersection from the LA riots in 1992 where a trucker was beaten!

Thanks for the well wishes!
