Roger discusses 'Dog With A Bone'

On Brian's site there is an extract of an interview with Roger about the possibility of any new Queen stuff with Freddie. He says along the lines of that he was convinced that there was nothing left in the archives, but once the archive guys go through and come across stuff they point it out. He then goes on to say that he has a track called 'Dog With A Bone' on his iPod at the moment which he doesn't remember at all and is completely unaware of.

I suppose the good thing is that it seems that Brian and Roger are actively looking at the archive tracks, but rather worryingly that the existence of songs and snippets we have all known about and been calling for for years are only now being made aware to the band.

Perhaps Greg or Gary can comment here to let us know WHEN they made Roger and Brian aware of these sort of tracks? Was it years ago and they've only just got found to listening, or did you find these tracks years ago but have kept it from them and only now pointed out to them that these tracks are there?

hahaha.... this makes me laugh a bit. For years these tracks (demos's) like Dog with a Bone have been on various sites on the internet and Roger now listen for the first time to Dog with a Bone?????? Track was also played on the various conventions....

Brian loved to work on the New York, New York song as he has said in earlier interview so I guess that one will be in.

Roger doesn't know how to use a computer :D

Well, he probably does, but he's not as "technically-savvy" as Brian. I don't think he likes computers.

As for the song Brian mentioned, I don't think he was talking about "New York, New York",  I think he was referring to "New York" and the fan remix from a few years ago.

We can't expect them to remember every track they recorded 25 years ago.  It's not like they spend their spare time listening to old rejected tracks.

Hell, I can't remember songs I wrote last year !

I occasionally thumb through old sketchbooks and find drawings I don't really remember doing.

By all accounts, the Miracle sessions were a very productive time, and all evidence supports that (10 album tracks, 5 non-album B-sides, TMLWKY, DWAB, and various snippets we have on the demos medley, plus whatever might still be in the vault), so it's likely DWAB was one of many tracks Roger worked on at one time and I'm sure it has all since has become a blur. The released tracks from The Miracle album standout, but the scraps and "rejects" fall away.

Well thought remembering Brian taking about the original idea of a soundtrack album for Highlander. They later made that into a Kind of Magic. But he said he love to see a proper release of New York and work on the tracks that didn't  fit on the album.

Does a 'full' version of New York New York even exist?

Has that ever been confirmed or denied?

On the commentary track for Highlander, I believe director Russell Mulcahy says Queen only did the portion we hear in the movie, because he had to beg Freddie to do it. He only convinced him when he said Liza Minelli had done a cover of it too.

So, what's in the movie is all there is. There is no recording of the full song.

And Brian's interest in compiling a proper Highlander soundtrack album was stated on one of the commentaries on Greatest Video Hits I (I think on "Who Wants To Live Forever"). Sadly, composer Michael Kamen died shortly thereafter and Brian said on his website that losing MK probably puts the kibosh on that idea. It's possible Brian could revisit a Highlander soundtrack project, but he's given no indication of doing so since MK died in 2003.
