Gil Scott Heron: Poet, Musician, Writer, Instructor, Activist, Jazz Legend... Bluesologist and Godfather of Rap (He was quoted as saying "Don't blame me for that") is scheduled to be awarded a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys on February 12th

I have no idea if they will honor this man. He was a f***ing genius, sentimental, and built of the keenest wit. It's a damn shame too few people know the cat.

I got the chance to see him on a strange occurrence... a 2009 US TOUR...

in 05-07 I'd heard he was in bad health and was going to sell my bass equipment and board a cheapie bus to New York JUST BECAUSE he was playing there at a small jazz club.

And NY is dangerous if you don't know wtf you're doing!

ANyways... would anyone care to share some thoughts?

The obvious being "why wasn't he awarded this when he was alive?"

Because the people who choose these awards are still  old white people.
