Brian May's existential journey and animal rights.

Could the question once Brian asked through The show must go on, found (at least partly) an answer to animals and nature?
The "does anybody knows what are we living for?" could be " Well to make this world a better place and try to lesser the inevitable part of pain in life?"

This thoughts were always into my mind and listening this interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODWpcFh7tXU , made me to put it into word.

I personally think that music and especially the ego-centric side of it ( i am a guitar God, i am part of that great group Queen, i am a wonderful composer) can eventually leave you empty when you have to deal with some of the biggest questions and challenges.
I think Brian after 1991 went on a existential journey trying to find something more meaningful especially facing Mercury’s and his fathers death and also his divorce.
The way he tried to cope with that burden through the years turning his interests to wild life and animals, i think is an inspirational one.

And astronomy and various other things. You could very well be right.

Some people are way too hard on Brian for simply wanting to branch out after being part of one of the biggest bands ever.

But rest assured, this is an incredibly small minority of people. 99% of people who know of Brian's existence greatly respect him.

And astronomy yes.

He said in one interview that looking at the stars through his telescope gave him a sense of meaning or calmness (or something like that) when he was in his black hole.

I think he started the "existential journey" in 1987, but didn't start coming to any meaningful conclusions until the early '90s when Freddie was about to die and he realized he would have to do other things with his life. That's why he was all sad and depressed a lot in the late '80s and early '90s.

I think he started his journey in 1947... it's not trolling, people are who they are, and in many cases they are who they are from the beginning. Depressive episodes also appear throughout the life of such a person. In Brian's case, such periods may have been better documented from '87 onwards, but they certainly existed before, some of his lyrics are consistent with a relatively 'sad' person all in all. Fortunately, he used that melancholy to write beautiful songs and not to take revenge on the world as many other people having an 'existential journey' end up doing.

I think you're being pretty broad with you're interpretation of what this topic is about, but it's a good point nonetheless

but i think it's hard to say for sure - you'd need to ask Brian straight out - as each individual is different

my reason?
i lost my father and brother to cancer three years ago
and i know from experience that profound loss affects us all differently
i now listen to loads of music they both listened to and somehow got into gardening...from spending those last few months in my dad's garden chatting with him
