Has anyone heard of or read books in the 33 1/3 series? These are short books dedicated to a single album. I've read about 20 of them--there are ones on REM, Beach Boys, Stones, Beatles, AC/DC, so many more.

But there hasn't been any on Queen yet.

They recently put out a call for authors to put in proposals for new titles. Check it out:

I just got my proposal in for News of the World. Hope it happens.

Anyway, curious to hear if people have read these books.

I've read a few Beatles ones. They're pretty informative for the average Joe. If you're a crazy fan, it's more just something to polish your knowledge with.

I don't know if that last sentence works. Oh well.

I haven't read the Beatles ones. My fave is the one that goes along with REM's Murmur, which goes in-depth big-time. There are others that take on different forms -- one is a novel (the Smiths, I think), another that's a memoir (by the guy from the Decemberists, for the Replacements' Let it Be).

Still surprised there's no Queen books.

Queen has never been one of those bands that you find "outside" their main company.

The Beatles used to be like that, but then they finally realized that it's a huge money maker. Oh, and the fans would like it too ;)

I hope that's not true. My proposal says Queen are bigger than they've ever been!

From my experience, it actually is kind of true. I've met some legitimate classic rock fans who generally have a great taste in music, but seem to think Queen is kind of stupid. I try to change that, though.

Well, there's some 471 proposals (!) in, and four were for Queen albums. Two were for NOTW, one for ADATR, and one for Hot Space!
