This site will close when Queen Productions release all the Queen gigs in their archive in a Ultra Super Ultimate Boxset...

there must come a time when everything has been shared or listened to.

The forum isn't gonna close down if it's updated to meet today's forums standards, this forum is stuck in the '90s. And the Absolute Greatest poll is still on the front page.
New people would probably be more interested in the forum if it at least looked and worked good.

I hope it will last long enough for me to try out david galashiel's suggestion to visit the site while drunk and be confused by the abbreviations (I'm 16 and live in America, so it will probably be another five years or so before I do any serious drinking)

The AG poll has been bugging me for a while now, but would you mind clarifying a little more? What should be done to make the site more "up to date?"

It wont ever close down because there will always be people who wish to stimulate varied and intelligent debate with questions like 'What is your favourite Queen album?' and 'What live show should Queen release on DVD next?'
Bring on the future!![/QUOTE]
ADatR is a better album than ANatO. Discuss.

Because the title said something different before you decided to enlighten us all with your idiocy.

On topic: QZ existed before you could easily share music over the internet. I don't see why it would shut down "when there's nothing left to share" - there will always be people looking for information, for recordings, for abuse, etc.

Some examples:
One thing that annoys me quite a bit is that if you write too long of a sentence without pressing enter to change row. Just like I am doing right now, the text will go out of the screen on the right (for me) and you actually have to use the scrollbar to see be able to read it. See what I mean?
The way threads work is horrible. Try make it easier to add replies and quote etc, add an option to preview replies.
Add an option to delete your own posts.
Change the front page completely, it has to look more modern.
Replace those low-res pictures of the band with something fresh-looking and move the queen Forum updates/etc, basically too actually look good and feel convenient.
Remove the stupid AG poll..

Update the top menu to be more convenient and remove the unnecessary stuff, update how profiles work...
I mean, after being on other forums they follow a standard, and there's so much here that feels inconvenient.
All that's needed is to learn from the others that are already setting an example.

the ''general'' and ''serious'' discussion'' kill me. I'd separate the threads in something like that...

-News
-Queen
--Albums
---72 to 77
---78 to 82
---83 to 91
---91 to now
--Live
---72 to 77
---78 to 82

---91 to now
--Other Tracks (B Sides, Singles...)
-Solo Queen Memebers
--Freddie
--Brian
--Roger
--John
-Queen +
--Various
--Paul Rodgers
--Adam Lambert
-Other Music (Bands, Composers...)
-Art

Far too detailed. The board headings are fine but a 'Live' section should be added so people with no clue can speculate about which gigs Queen should release on DVD next even though they don't actually know what is available and Queen are not going to release anyway.

With twenty-nine different forums, AnalRetentiveZone might be a better name...

I don't have the problem with text going off the screen, but everything else you said makes sense. Has anybody actually made an attempt to get some of this stuff changed?

Bet you're the only one that counted.  Just sayin'. :P

But yes, waaaaay too chopped up.  Though 'General' and 'Serious' have somewhat lost whatever distinction they may have had at one point, it's still about the right number of threads for daily use.  It does make it harder to a find old stuff on a particular subject, or easily use the forum for anything like research though.

I actually generally prefer the stripped down format over a format like QOL discussion for example.  Copious 'wrapping' for every post makes scrolling/hunting for actual content post to post tedious in the extreme over there.  Not all newer forum bells and whistles add to discussion. I think functions like 'Like' and 'Dislike' and 'Thanks' and such just get in the way and breed cliqueiness.  It's much more meaningful to use words when you've appreciated something enough to consider indicating that.

Even after a couple of years some things are a mystery to me.  What is the Buddy list?  And some basic stuff that doesn't work simply should. I've learned to copy *everything* before I try to post it because the risk of something bizarre happening and losing the post is unacceptably high.  We can't manage our PM box anymore.  That would be nice. Don't know what's up with the Profiles because there's nothing important in mine, but others have complained. Emailed notifications are often duplicated, or even octo-cated sometimes. But in a weird way the trials and frustrations are part of the experience. Queenzone is a bit like the internet equivalent of "I was in 'Nam". It's can be a little hellish, but there's a certain accomplishment and sense of fealty in the common experience.  Maybe it takes more than an average love for the band to stick around.  And the flip side of neglect is virtually complete freedom, isn't it. That's a pretty rare and precious thing in the world of discussion boards.  I'll put up with a lot for that.

it seems i have awoken a demon here with this topic.
im sorry but that was not my intention.
it was just a curious comment about the future of q/zone.
although i agree with some of the comments about the site being slightly out of date.
sorry if i offended anyone, but on the plus side.
it may make the owners/admins,bring the sight more up to date.
