I play them on my les paul. I was shocked to learn Brian uses 8 gauge strings!
Using 9 gauge on a 25.75" les paul is like spaghetti.
Brian uses 8 gauge on a 25" guitar, Must be like rubber bands! LOL

yeah i have played the red special replicas and let me tell you the strings are gorgeous to play on, they extremely bendy, he uses 0.09 strings and errm yeah its a joy to play because the strings are a funny metal that doesnt hurt your fingers when playing them

He doesn't. He uses a 9 gauge sets from Optiva.(Avaiable from A-strings)
When he started using the gold sets (Maxima before the name change to Optiva)he used their made up 8 gauge sets.
For most of his 70's-90's period he used a bespoke set - 8,9,11,16w,22w,34w. These have varied slightly but in essence are as shown.
His guitar has a scale length of 24" (610mm roughly)and playing these gossamer sets does take a small adjustment of your grip etc.

A little, though I don't own any Red Special copy or anything like that. It definitely would have been more 'slippery' to play

Billy Gibbons uses an 8 gauge set quite similar to what Brian used to use. You can pick them up on eBay although they're not cheap.

You play an intro and I'll name the song I hear!

Brian uses 9 gauge strings but the feel of the guitar is very light and gentle. You have to look out for the pitch when you bend a string.
I've played several replicas, original and homemades (including my own).

I've played the actual red special :D They're the custom 9 set from Astrings, left on until they snap (or look so freyed they are about to).

I have a RS and the strings are very easy to bend , low action and excellent finish. However it takes a while to get used to the pickups. it has less character that a stratocaster and it lacks the woody crunchy sound of the les paul, however it has a very own sound in several of the pickup combinations. Im sure having a proper vox ac30 its a must. I use a tiny solid state vox amp.

I tried to play Crazy Little Thing Called Love on guitar--I didn't know three chords.
Freddie was a master guitarist!

Hey Greg, I can teach you those 3 bloody chords when you come to Edmonton in little less than 2 weeks from now ;-)

Edmonton now! Jeez. You give a guy an enhanced driver's license and all of a sudden he thinks he owns the place. :P

In reality, if my memory serves correctly, it's 6 or 7 chords
