Isn't it obvious to anyone who listens? A very different Queen from 80 forward. Change happens and it isn't always good. I do like some of the music in the 80's though, and it's because I enjoy Freddie. As for Brian's singing...I could always do without it except on back vocals.

That's just what Elvis used to say.

So Tom, you don't know anything about my favourite band, do you? Being born after their career was over. I don't care what Brian May has done since 1991, so the orchestration thing with him is irrelevant.
You picked the argument with someone who has been with Queen since I first heard SSOR, in 1973. And someone who saw Queen live 6 times.
All my postings on this and the Spike thread are my opinions, no one can change them. But you did try to pick holes in them. How very wrong you are about Extreme too.
IMO, Queen ended for me after Under Pressure was released in 1981, apart from the occasional good track here and there. I think it did for many other people too. So please in future don't offer me your opinions or react to mine, cos your opinions are worthless, cos you haven't got a clue what it was like, when they were, IMO, the greatest 'recording' band ever, in the 1970's. But they are not the greatest 'live' band, ever.
Now get back in your basket.

Again, mostly subjective. Any opinion on Queen of mine is clearly invalid, as I didn't live through their actual existence. Similarly, all historians are complete idiots and should probably abandon their work, as if they didn't live through the events they enjoy learning about then they might as well not attempt have anything to do with them. You really can't compose an argument to save your life can you, despite carrying all the knowledge of such a learned forty year old man. I tried to be civil, even expressing regret for being somewhat pressing with my opinion, but you persist in being completely childish about it, and so I'm not going to bother. My opinion is clearly worthless because it doesn't line up with your fairly narrow minded one.

And what is a forum for if not discussion? Presenting my opinion and pointing out what I disagree with about the opinion of others isn't really something that should be out of place on a site where people.. discuss Queen. Jeez.. you really undermine yourself by clearly trying to associate wisdom and knowledge with your age, then proving you're incapable of any reason whatsoever.

Basically Queen means something in particular to you, and that's fine, but what isn't fine is the way you're completely intolerant to anything else. Perhaps it'll come as something of a wake up call that Queen isn't actually yours.

WELL, now you'll tell me Freddie isnt MINE? Enough already!

My poor attempt at humor. Yes, ridiculous how people get so possessive. I think that everyones opinion counts and for the time I've been on this forum (short period of time), I too find a lot of grouchy people. Including me! I dislike AL and have been very loud about it. I have learned a lot from QZ and have enjoyed being here even though sometimes it's hard to wade through the arguments..well, except when I contribute to them :-)

Cant we all just get along?

Barcelona is a brilliant album with some of Freddie's best vocals recorded.
I always knew I was a star And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me-Freddie Mercury

I hope you realise you sound like an arrogant twat by writing this?

Who gives a flying fuck how much longer you've listened to Queen... means hee haw. We're all fans, we've all listened to the same songs, some before Freddie died... others after. Does it mean either have superiority as a fan... NO.

Get off your high horse you twat. I'm 33 btw (as you seem concerned with people's ages!).

Trying to 'outfan' someone on a Queen fansite at thje age of 47... grow the fuck up.

ON TOPIC : what I've heard from YT clippings... it sounds great, given it new life imo.

I tend to agree with the Freddie's usage of synths being based on him controlling the album better... something he wouldn't have been able to do surely with an orchestra and conductor? Wouldn't it possibly create problems with the conductor maybe having a slightly different vision than Freddie? He had enough rows with Brian and Roger with Queen... so maybe he didn't want that with his solo work?

I wouldn't have been bothered with a remaster of the original... the solo project gave them new life already. An orchestra will sound great, and I'm sure Freddie would love it this way.

I find it interesting Queen recorded with an orchestra on the AKOM album, but Freddie didn't use an orchestra for Barcelona. If you're going to dive into opera, use an orchestra. However, those are some damn good synths on the original!!!

Looking forward to the new version.

Freddie, according to his own statements, recorded Barcelona with synthesizers "because you just don't have that kind of control over a real orchestra" (actual quotation, which is in The Freddie Mercury Collection, paraphrased).

IMHO, that meant he just didn't have the patience to rehearse with a real orchestra until they play their parts to his liking.

I really liked the *idea* behind this re-make, I just think the result is lukewarm and light years removed from what it could have been.
