I think most people agree with me, otherwise the fanclub wouldn't have a problem with the ever decreasing number of people that are willing to be a paying member.

I believe that the fanclub in its actual form is not relevant anymore. This has been the situation for years already. I ended my membership in 1999 or so. It seems Queen has realised this too and stopped funding the fanclub.

If Jacky desperately wants to hold on to something wich is not relevant anymore: Fine! She can do whatever she wants. But i'm not paying for that. Queen isn't either.
Also, You call me greedy? 20+ years I've paid for every official Queen/solo release up untill Queen live at Bowl. Vinyl, cd, dvd, cassette singles, cd singles. You name it.

I'm not doing that anymore.I'd rather spent my money on concert tickets. The world has changed. Almost nobody pays for offical releases anymore. If a fanclub, record company or band has not changed it's business model, don't blame the fans for not paying! Change the business model! We live in 2012.
Brian, Roger, QPL et al. gave their blessing to Jacky and the Fan Club to sell the DVD to help raise funds to keep the Fan Club going.
Yes, but we're missing the legality part of the equation.

Queen  (and I'm assuming this is a Queen video) has an obligation to their record company.  This is a clear violation of that.  The fan club is in the UK.  Queen has an exclusive contract for official releases in the U.K.  If they release something outside of that contract, they are in breach of contract.  The record company could sue them for past (and future) earnings off this video.

And look at that website.  It doesn't appear that the video (or whatever other fundraising) is doing well or the money is not being used on the website.

I demand a free copy.  Charging me for it (other than postage) would be against the law.  And if they used the US Mail System to ship this "bootleg", it would be a felony.  It needs to be hand delivered.  By Brian.

Its not official, you cant go into HMV and buy a CDR with printed labels can you,its a bootleg, end of!!!Keep it real, mutha trucka.......

Not official doesn't necessarily mean bootleg. There are more than two possibilities.

Unofficial recordings can include bootlegs, counterfeits, pirates, and things released by other channels that aren't a record label.

I see what you're saying, but you need to try and move past this binary thinking that every DVD not in a store is a bootleg. It's a bit more complex than that.

In the case of these DVDs, it's a bunch of footage of people talking. The only person who owns the rights to that is the person who is filming it - and this happens to be the person selling it. It is her right to do what she wants with it.

If you sold a DVD containing footage of your friends having a pool party, it wouldn't be a bootleg. It would be a DVD of your friends having a pool party. There is no need to categorize it, because it cannot be categorized.

The only difference between these fan club DVDs and your pool party DVD is the people in the footage are well-known.

How about the music that is on the DVD?

"Dog With a Bone" Message 3st OIQFC Convention 1988
"Invisible Man" Message 4st OIQFC Convention 1989
"I'm Going Slightly Mad (Totally Bonkers)" Message 6st OIQFC Conv. 1991

What about the Queen logo font used for the frontsleeve?

Ah, then we've got a different story !

I highly doubt Jacky would release things through the fan club that QPL didn't approve of.

If the fan club is in that much dire need of money, they should release things people ACTUALLY WANT TO BUY. Release a 1978 concert film on DVD (even if it's a single camera with mono audio - people won't care!) and bang, there's a year of operation costs paid for. Give QPL their cut, and everyone wins.

Err... If it was a pool party filming a movie from the tv screen, it would be a bootleg taping of the movie, not a recording of the party. (Otherwise I could tape in a movie theatre and claim I was recording the action of watching a movie, not the actual movie!)

What it really comes down to is whether the band gave their permission to record the material at the event, and sell it afterwards. If either of these criteria aren't met, it's a bootleg dvd.

I have nothing against the fan club, I've bought items from there in the 90's, I'd buy exclusive items again... But I'm not going to buy anything Jacky is afraid to sell in broad daylight. That tells me the product isn't legitimate.

The DVD was sold to fans attending the 25th convention, over 2 years ago, but as I recall it wasn't ready in time. Maybe someone can shed light on this?
For all I know they could all have sold when they were ready and sent out.
I initially gave Jacky's contact email so people could ask if is still available to buy. There is no reason she would be advertising it on the website after all this time.
As I recall they might even have been on the merchandise stall at this years convention.

Why do the players involved think this kind of DVD could be profitable for the fan club, but not 70s concert footage?

Never understood the FanClub being hard up for funds.

I'm sure Brian, Roger and John (maybe) could solve all the financial issues for Jacky to run it properly.

I was a member for about 15 years but gave up when the magazines got fewer each year and that you could find out 'new stories' via the Internet etc.

I mean she's not even wished John a Happy Birthday from the other week :)

You could take it one step further.

For that ridiculous $50, you could get 3 12-page magazines AND the 1978 DVD.  You could even charge $55.

Maybe someone would actually pay the $50-55, then.

Perhaps GT can pass this rather simple plan along to the fan club....  before they go broke and have to have substandard releases and webpages.  Oops.

I think the fan club is shit, and i personally stopped subscribing in 1994,i think the convention should carry on though as it looks a lot of fun,but i think if you are going to pay your dollar for a years subscription you should be able to purchase better products than a bloody keyring,T-Shirts or cds/dvds that are priced higher than most retailers, they should give you the opportunity to buy exclusive content that you cant buy anywhere else, they show 70s concert at the conventions,so how easy would it be to to mass transfer these shows to dvd/cd and sell them exclusively to fan club members, kinda like a loyalty bonus for worshipping at the alter of King Freddie, then the subscriptions to join would go through the roof, and the fan club could be great again like it once was!

Bite me. HMV is not the be all, end all of official product distribution, especially when it comes to exclusives, and you know that!
And you've only done yourself a disservice by highlighting your stupidity even further in that post.

If u keep taking things personally i presume you either work for QPL or want to.This site is built on people wanting what they cant have, and obtaining such material from other fans who are kind enough to share. When someone uploads a rare video or audio the true fans get excited, like us oldies used to on the day a new release was imminent. If u think im stupid, fine,i wont lose any sleep over it.Thank you and goodnight.Your sincerely Dr.Mason Phd
