Does anybody know whether Fat Bottomed Girls or Bicycle Race was written first?

i.e., did Brian write FBG, and then Freddie decided to write a song that incorporated the phrase in one of the lines, or did Freddie write BR first and then Brian decided to write an entire song around one of its lines (kind of like how Headlong is built around a line from Breakthru)?

Just curious.

Bonus Question: which one do you like better? For me, it's a very narrow victory for Fat Bottomed Girls.

Hi waunakonor
I can only answer your bonus question. Fat Bottom Girls by a mile. Its a classic. Bicycle Race is is fun, far more gimmicky and a little bit silly. Which is absolutely fine, but for me it doesn't compete with its original flipside.

In the days of our lives documentary Brian states that bicycle race for some reason inspired him to write fat bottomed girls, or something of the like. So assuming that is true then bicycle race came first.[/QUOTE]
No he doesn't. He states that seeing Tour de France inspired him "for some reason" to write Fat Bottomed Girls and Freddie to write Bicycle Race

Bicycle Race is by far the better of the two songs. It's one of Mercury's most fascinating compositions. Bubblegum on the surface, but complex underneath that top layer.

Brian even once said how Fat Bottomed Girls was so trite, wishing that a song like Dead On Time had been more popular since it was so much more interesting.

My apologies. I shouldn't have posted that without checking first I suppose..
