A disappointment, that’s what it was. He started “and I’m trying to lose…” and then instead of “that one final screw” it just went “six inches” :(

Well I hope he acts better than he interviews. That was dull.

Yeah that was entirely underwhelming. I think there is a great chance he'll be fine in the role, but Sacha can be tedious in not knowing when to turn it off. People don't have to be funny all the time and he is one of those people that can make humor tedious by not knowing when just being straight is what's needed. Perhaps it's the contrast he's going for...the eventual sense of "Wow! He CAN play a serious role effectively." What has me concerned more than SBC at this point is the departure of Peter Morgan and some of his comments before and after. It sounds to me like a lot of creative control is being exercised by people who may have an inherent conflict of interest with the truth of the history, i.e. the remaining members of the band.
tim burton hasn't been the consistent guy he used to be.
maybe it's production/deep pockets or whatever. But anyways, this sounds dismal... sacha sucks...
i hope it tanks and ranks and stinks and festers..... until 10 years from now, people look back on it like a frustrated mess that's unintentionally funny...

one member of said band
Who thinks (to quote)
Freddie and Borat (sbc)are a great combination
Brian May said that and it shows what he was thinking
he was not thinking about acting skill he was thinking comedy and more specifically he was thinking of the outrageous persona of one persons only really well known silly character BORAT
Getting away with it
And he's reportedly delighted to be playing the rock legend. "He loves the idea he can get away with playing Freddie after modelling Borat's look on him," according to an insider.
4 MAY 2007
Is Brian may an expert on actors ? does he know anything about movies or acting?
or is he just a comedy fan?
The Portrayal of Freddie and his life story
should not be equated with a combination of BORAT
This is Freddie and his life we are talking about, not a excuse for another Borat funny.
Cohen plainly by view of the fact all his characters are unreal
to the point of being so unreal they make people laugh,
cannot and has not to date, EVER played a serious convincing role in AS A BELIEVABLE PERSON, anything.
Because he cannot.
That is why he creates characters that are meant to be REAL AND ARE REALLY interacting with REAL normal people, because he cannot ACT!
His work is based upon his deep political heart confronting REAL PEOPLE to mock them WHILE WEARING A MASK.
He should in fact become a shock jock he would love that, maybe that is why his only real interviews have been with STERN who apart from sharing his face, more importantly is a shock jock, and that is the real heart of Sasha, A shock jock, on film , with the freedom to insult or make a fool of others who's politics or lifestyles he despises.
IN FACT he is a shock Jock he doesn't really act he shocks and he believes the motivation of the things he is saying to the public who he despises for the most part who were part of Borat for instance
That is the secret of his success, A DEEP POLITICAL HATRED OF CERTAIN THINGS
AND LETS NOT FORGET THE GREATEST HATRED WAS TO BORAT HIMSELF
Borat was Cohen's real version of Charlie Chaplin's the Dictator.
Where Chaplin mocked Hitler, Cohen mocked antisemites, same thing, but for success his own character had to have Kazakhstan as collateral damage, because he knew Americans are not all thick, and so he knew they needed a real country of origin to believe he was who he said he was.
Shame on Cohen for that!
He should have played virtually any world politician as an aspiring British man (big bad and corrupt enough to deal with it ) wanting to move into American politics to covertly speed up Israels demise even faster than the plan is now - the snakes are as antisemitic as they come (world politicians. I agree with Cohens' stance on that (antisemitism) but he cant act!
What he does is not acting.
Actors do not act in a real environment with real people in the public and off the street in the REAL WORLD.
They act in a story and interact with other actors, and to do that properly is a great skill and requires the ability to dramatically convey and convince of the human story and human condition, and human personality
SBC does not have that skill, never has, and never will have.
Other comedy actors that have branched out into serious roles passably, should not be equated with SBC,
because their comedy is drama based,. Cohen's was never drama based, it was documentary real world comedy.
When he has attempted anything near normal & drama based, such as Ali G or The Dictator, they have been universally shown to be be below par when compared with his documentary style comedy, which is what he does best.
He is THE great pretender in Hollywood- ( it should be Bollywood but that's just bad luck.)
He is a great pretender, who broke the mold of comedy by doing what we all do,
have people on for a laugh - and that is not acting.
YET HE DID IT WITH A FUNNY VOICE AND A MUSTACHE
I am not taking that away from him.
But it is the pinnacle of his achievements, and he did it well.
But still he was not acting in the very different environment of real actors, and when he faces and is with them, his complete lack of skill stands out like a sore thumb.
And what is more, that real dramatic acting skill is needed all the more so, if you are to convincingly make a movie about a real and very well known person such as Freddie, not to mention portray Freddie's own "act" convincingly
The world conjured up in a good movie that takes you into its world is not the real world, and it is not Cohen's documentary jokes world. It is the world of cinema's magic, and those in it have a skill, and Cohen does not have that skill, full stop.
So sadly to negate Led Zeppelin's words-
"he will not take you there"
Yet that is what the world wants,
to be taken. ..." there"
only Jeremy kapone can.
everything i have said is true.
How depressing it is.
Queen doing things should be a cause for a wow reaction and expectation like it used to be , but now they are doing things wrong, they are making decisions they are not qualified to make, and choosing actors who are not actors for a movie about Freddie is one of them.

Wow. Has Peter Morgan departed? What did he say?
Who said Tim Burton? I remember reading news that Stephen Frears is supposed to direct it.
I’m with those want to see SBC to do what he does best, which means I’d actually love him to play Freddie :-) Freddie was such a vivacious person - a great comedian himself at times - his bio as a mad comedy and not another sulky drama would be just a dream come true. Now, I honestly don’t know. There’s still no credible info about the genre XD plus, a good writer is needed.
Anyway, I respect the fact that it’s SBC’s project (for those not familiar with Hollywood, they basically don’t cast actors for leading roles; they have a star and then they develop a movie around him/her) so he has all rights reserved to flop it XD

I don't want a sulky drama either
You are not understanding the point, to convey Freddie and his humour requires a very good actor, if you are to believe by the magic of movies that you are watching Freddie.
It at least requires someone you are prepared to make you believe is Freddie, there is no chance in hell Sacha will ever be seen other than Sacha baron Cohen, i hope you now see the obvious.
And i was under the impression Queen had the rights not sacha and as to Hollywood you are talking about the old studio days surely.
What Queen really should have done was look first for a star director one who could do a directors job which is to make a decent movie fitting for Freddie, part of that job would be to find the right person to play him, and star directors have that power- they cast!
and by star director i do not mean actor i mean a genius.
There are a few still alive with monumental standards and talent equal to doing something as grande and magnificent as is fitting to Freddie and Queen, and they could do a first , recreate an authentic rock band story for a movie and recreate the 70's to a standard that will be a milestone in movie history and really" take you there '"
No director worth his salt would ever, ever cast Sacha Baron Cohen in any of their movies as Freddie Mercury if they were passionate about Freddie and Queen and wanted to make a serious breathtaking awesome movie about them, equal
emotionally, to their musical impact.
Seemingly they have chosen the wrong,
and that great thing that was there to be taken and created, shall not happen, and neither shall the one who was to be the one, for without him it wont , and it wouldn't anyway.

Ehm, did I get it wrong and it’s NOT Sacha Baron Cohen who purchased the rights to make Freddie biopic? I mean, normally the owners of the rights sell/give/award them to producers who do the movie business. As SBC was the only producer named – he’s been producing his films for a while, Borat included - in connection with this project I naturally thought it’s him XD but if I think about it, it’s a good question who the producers are actually.
cmsdrums · Member since
The executive producers will no doubt be Brian, Roger and Jim Beach (and possibly Robert De Niro too through his Tribeca company too).
I'm quite worried by Peter Morgan pulling out, and the reasons around that. He has a very strong reputation and this would have gone a long way in them being able to market the film as a serious biopic.

As SBC was the only producer?
I think Sacha is not producing
i mean he would be stupid to back a movie
he himself is the star of
i thought producers get and put finance together
sacha need not worry he will be the star
the main feature
he will get all the aclaim
it will ALL
be about
HIM
ID BIG E FIN FUFFIN LETTERS
BOLD AS BRASS
BAROH COHEN IN EVERY SCENE
SACHA'S STORY
HIS MOVIE
HIS FACE
HIS LIFE
SACHA BLOODY BARON COHEN THE STAR OF THE SHOW!!
Freddie would
NEVER STAND IS ANYONES SHADOW
But now HE WILL
(he he ) gotchya now Fredie boy take a backseat and shut the f up!!
6 FOOT 3 THE SHADOW OF COHEN
And who cares,
he is dead after all.
And any serious criticism if there is any will be answered by pointing to Freddie and his character
they were just trying to be true to the man etc, after all he could be outrageous etcetc
YOU TRY STOPPIN SACHA BARON COHEN FROM STEALING THE SHOW
YOU WILL NEVER FORGET WHO HE IS
YOU WILL NEVER
NOT NOTICE
THE COHEN IS IN THE ROOM
he is TOO BIG TO MISS
AND YOU WILL NEVER EVER FORGET HIM

I've never seen someone speculate so extensively and groundlessly on anything in my entire life. This movie has barely even come to any sort of fruition yet, and you make all these assumptions about how catastrophic it's going to be, based on absolutely nothing except your preexisting opinion about Cohen.

Exactly!
SBC sucks!
(Prepare for the worst = be mildly surprised,)
(Great Expectations: dismal returns)
I only mentioned tim Burton because someone mentioned that SBC's involvement in Sweeny Todd: demon barber of blah bvlah blah, was a clear indication of SBC's marvelous talent
Seen him in that, and Hugo. Horrible in the latter, didn't like the former....
