40 Years of Queen' Multi-touch Electronic Edition
Art Direction by Richard Gray
Digital Production by Stephen Cary
Text by Harry Doherty

Available now from the iBookstore

Published by Carlton Digital, available to buy from the iBookstore, £9.99, 14th December 2012

Following on from the phenomenal success of the book release last year, 40 YEARS OF QUEEN is being released as a stunning enhanced ebook.

Built using Apple iBooks Author, this will delight Queen fans and anyone with an iPad.

This is Queen’s and Carlton Digital’s first ebook, and the most advanced music ebook on the market.

With new audio forewords by Brian May and Roger Taylor:

"Now, technology is causing us to rethink once again and rediscover what a book really is and what it has the potential to be. I think this is a great advert for what ebooks may be like in the future. It looks great, reads well and you can play with it for hours...We hope you enjoy the ebook as much as we do" Brian May

“I've got to say I'm incredibly impressed with the transition of the book from hard copy to ebook; a whole new world and a lot more portable! To be honest, I've found myself quite immersed in it, with all its interactive content – it does add a whole new dimension to the book experience. All in all, a great way to explore the fabulous and wonderful world that is Queen!” Roger Taylor

Using the latest technology, Goodman Books bring you the ultimate Queen book – in electronic form. This fully interactive enhanced ebook takes you as close to the band as you can get – without leaving your chair! Dynamic photo galleries, multi-touch control, Queen’s music and reproductions of memorabilia make this project incredibly unique.

40 Years of Queen is much more than just a port of the original book, this augmented edition adds many new touches and has been specifically designed ground-up for the iPad. Navigate easily through every aspect of Queen with this interactive product, which takes full advantage of the iPad and its most up-to-date technology. It was created using Apple iBooks Author, which is fast becoming the industry standard.

The book contains biographies of each band member, including dynamic photo galleries, handwritten lyrics and audio quotes. The full story of the legendary rock band is presented in an imaginative and thrilling way. Readers are able to seamlessly purchase Queen iTunes products without leaving the page. Other enhanced ebooks like this require you to stop using iBooks Reader and go into iTunes separately – this is the only product where you simply hit a button and the relevant iTunes page pops up in front of you!

Other interactive extras include a solvable electronic jigsaw puzzle, zoomable photographs, multi-image galleries, animations to show off vinyl inside and out, hotlinks for simple navigation, and even photographs of mud-wrestling women!

You’re going to love it!

The ebook is available worldwide, only in English.

Bought it and have been poking around for 20 minutes or so. Got through the audio forewords from Brian and Roger and the first several pages, which aren't always like pages precisely, more like somewhat befuddling multi media portals, and am looking forward to continuing to explore. A couple of early but small complaints: the navigation is a little muddy and unintuitive initially - will see if it all becomes clear with further use; and, the first (and perhaps all) link to iTunes material failed as it is available in the U.K. Store and not the Canadian (and presumably U.S.) Store. So, no idea what the link even was, or if I'm missing anything.

I'd stick to my 2 iPhones, AppleTV, iPad and MacbookPro with the greatest Appstore, the best user experience (and yes, being ”locked in” does make the difference), iCloud -synced through all devices, Facetime, etc etc. Hence the fact, I dont even jailbreak my devices as I pay for my apps!

... Android is fragmented, unintuitive , cheap, incoherent, let alone that the majority of handsets do not get any proper updates (with some minor exceptions). People buy them a lot, I agree, but to me Android is a wasted opportunity. Hence the fact that the CSO (Chief Strategy Officer) of Samsung privately uses Macs, iPads and iPhones (preferring that over the Android experience).

/end of rant (lol)

Nice. I just got an iPad a few days ago and am currently using it.

I'll take those zoomable photographs of mud wrestling women, if nothing else. Are there any girls riding bicycles?

Also: a jigsaw puzzle? Okay...

Damn, don't own any apple products. I think Steve Jobs was a cunt, and Apple Inc have the same moral compass as a serial rapist.

Book sounds nice though.
Arse.

Just another way to milk the fans.

Bring out the book for £20 then months later bring it out as an ibook with extra stuff for a tenner that the fan will have to buy (if they have an iPad).

Disgusting abuse of their fans.

Fuck them
No Freddie, No John.....No Queen

They don't have to buy it. I never bought the original version.

I think part of this is an interesting comment in its way, Marknow, but I think there were better ways of putting it.

The book is very nice, yes. And i further take the point that not everyone has an iPad.

Don't speak so beastlily of the dead, Mark, it's not nice and young persons could be reading. Now then!
