eBay and Amazon Marketplace are two places that should never be used to set a benchmark for pricing. A lot of sellers at both sites tend to be very greedy, or in the case linked above just absurdly unrealistic.

Wow. Just wow. Who the fuck is charging this, and why? I still don't see how this can be worth any more than £100.
As for "Ultimate Queen" - I've seen it advertised at ridiculous prices like £6000, but I wouldn't expect more than £400 to be honest. In fact, I sold one at £90 once because the box was damaged and the guy only needed the hologram from it lol.
Some "rare" things I've sold before:
Blue Bohemian Rhapsody - unnumbered, with replica sleeve: £750 (expected £1000)
The Complete Works - £50 (expected £100)
Box of Tricks - £40 (expected £80)
Ultimate Collection - £400 (expected £400)
Ultimate Collection - £90 (expected £200-£300)
Signed RIAA Innuendo - £2250 (EXPECTED £1000)
and....drumroll......a FAKE/BOOTLEG Blue Bo Rhap (Supposed to be the purple fan club, but was blue - DJ95) - £180 (EXPECTED £10)
The point I'm making is that things will go what they go for if reasonably priced. Shit like £3000 for a boxset you see plenty of daily??? MADNESS!!!!

It is personal opinion what people will pay for the item. If a person is desperate to own something, they will pay for it. I personally bought the Freddie Mercury Collection in October last year, and I paid £2100. This was worth it to me because I considered the rarities CD's in the collection, together with the book to be worth this amount alone. The other DVD's and CD's were just an added bonus to me. You have mentioned the fact that you can get this a lot cheaper, but it is waiting for the item to become available which may never happen. I placed an advertisement in several newspapers around the Portsmouth and London areas, and I only got the one reply. I arranged to meet the seller as I wanted to check the Collection over before I bought it. We then agreed a price.
I am just hoping for your sake that you still have this in your possession so that you can get a more realistic price for this, and if other users of this site are considering selling theirs, they will now know a realistic value. Always remember that there were only a limited number of these collections produced, and very few become available for resale.
I could have kept quiet about this and purchased your copy, and other copies that become available myself, but I just wanted to make the point that sellers on sites like this do not know the value of what they are selling before they place the advert, and I just hope I have made this point. If you can find the right buyer, and they are desperate to own the item, you can get a much higher price than you would be expecting.

^ In other words, rip them off because they're desperate? I agree that it's up to who buys the item, but I believe in fairness too!!
The list above was to highlight that you don't always get what you're expecting, value-wise. It could go either way, as the bootleg Bo Rhap illustrates.
If you were happy to pay £2100, then best of luck to you. And I mean that with all the goodwill going. But you could've researched a bit more and had it for a less than a tenth of that on eBay, as they come up quite often. You could even have looked into record stores throughout the country (I never see it above £150 anywhere I go, and I do travel a lot throughout the UK: places like Newcastle, Manchester etc have plenty of record stores that see this box regularly) and nabbed a better deal. Your travel wouldn't have cost anywhere near that price, and even if you couldn't travel, there's post.
The way I see it is you were desperate, and they saw you coming. Absolutely no disrespect intended to you. I can, of course, see the point you're making :)
As for selling my copy? No chance - not because I think it's valuable, but because it was given to me as a gift by my parents for my 20th birthday. I'll sell things I bought myself, or trade in business, but never that. Same goes for my Red Special guitar - given to me for my 30th!! If there's only two things left in my possession when I die, it'll be those two :)

If you knew the area where I live, there isn't a record store within 50 miles. These places have completely closed down because of the internet. If you could see the state of the High Street in the town, it is completely deserted, and the counsel now have plans to completely demolish, and build flats. There will be no shops shortly where I live only large supermarkets.
With regards to buying such things from sites like EBAY, when I was looking for the item there were none available. Maybe I should have looked at more sites, but I had been looking for at least two months, and none came up, only individual components of the set. A lot of the books were damaged also. If you have a look on Amazon yourself, you will be able to see the price of the items, such as a couple of the DVD's are priced at around £45. If I had purchased it this way, I could have waited years for the rest of the disks to become available so that I could complete the set, but it was the rarities that I was mainly after.
There are many people who have purchased this set, and my cousin paid more than me. I just hope I have done readers of this site a big favour by informing you of what this sells for. If you look at the item on Amazon, they have sold quite a few at that price. If I did not own the copy that I have, I would have placed the order for the £3000 copy as soon as I had seen it because it is worth it to me, and I have again looked just now and there are no other companies selling it that I can find. The next one you get, you try and sell it for this price, and I just hope you have not been ripped off with the copy you have advertised. I bet you have no problems selling this at all. I am personally going to be looking out for this at such places as Car Boot Sales, and I have friends who manage charity shops, and I have asked them to look out for this for me. Depending on the condition, I am not going to part with this for less than £1000. If Amazon did not think it was worth £3000, they would not have advertised it at that price which is what they told me when I contacted them because when I first saw it advertised I honestly thought there had been a typing error, but they confirmed the figure was correct.
This is not the only box set of disks that is being sold for high amounts. Just have a look at the Beatles box sets. There are 3 available in black boxes. One, the Albums box, is like a bureau and you will soon see the sets that are on sale. I paid just under £1000 for the three sets, but I know people who have been buying these for a lot more, and I have been offered a lot of money for mine. This is because they were not available to buy when my relative was after them.
NOW THAT I HAVE INFORMED YOU OF THIS, I HOPE I HAVE DONE ALL USERS OF THIS SITE A FAVOUR AND SAVED YOU A LOT OF MONEY. PLEASE REMEMBER HOW MUCH THESE SETS ARE BEING SOLD FOR AND CHECK ON THESE SITES FOR THE CURRENT PRICE BEFORE YOU ADVERTISE THEM FOR SALE. IF READERS CAN WAIT, AND CHECK OTHER SITES FOR A FEW MONTHS PLEASE DO SO, BUT IT IS THOSE PEOPLE WHO WERE SELLING THESE WHO I WAS MOST CONCERNED ABOUT. £3000 FOR THIS COLLECTION IS WORTH IT TO SOME PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF.
THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL EVER LOOK AT THIS SITE, BUT PLEASE KEEP THESE MESSAGES ON TO INFORM USERS.

^ it's a shame that Brook100! can't see this as they won't be back, but I can appreciate how the high street is, and how record stores are closing: however, coming from where I am in Scotland, I'm definitely more than 50 miles away from the stores I've personally seen this at in Dundee, Edinburgh (OK, 45 miles), Newcastle, Sunderland, Bolton, Manchester, Blackpool, Huddersfield, Leeds, York, Scarborough and London in recent times....it's easy to track down.
But still, the message is clear: get it at £100 and sell it for £3000!!
