Well, is it shit or not ? The fact that you've singled out almost a third of the album as acceptable at least, means it can't be shit for you.
Queen were extremely diverse and perhaps Hot Space is the broadest example of this in terms of bringing out something we did'nt expect, but I,like many, have long accepted Hot Space as being part of Queens canon of work and for me, i think a catchy, bright and surprising episode in the great Queen story.

Queen put out their two worst albums back to back (Flash Gordon and Hot Space). Other than AtD, PotF and UP, most of Hot Space was either cringeworthy (BC & LIR) or at best mediocre.

I disagree, but at least you had the common sense to write that that's your opinion.
