Fans find memorial clue to star's ashes in Kensal Green Cemetery, West London, 21 years after he died of Aids
Fans of Freddie Mercury believe they may have solved the 21-year mystery of his final resting place.
A memorial plaque to the legendary Queen singer who died of Aids in 1991 aged 45 has recently been discovered in Kensal Green Cemetery, West London.
It reads: “In Loving Memory of Farrokh Bulsara”, adding in French: “Pour Etre Toujours Pres De Toi Avec Tout Mon Amour”.
This translates to “Always To Be Close To You With All My Love” – and is marked “M”.
Farrokh Bulsara was the star’s real name. He changed it after forming Queen in 1971.
Fans suspect “M” could be his ex-lover Mary Austin, who inherited his £10million home, Garden Lodge.
Freddie’s ashes are believed to have been given to her after his cremation, but she has never revealed what became of them. Yesterday a spokesman for Freddie’s estate declined to comment.
It’s not clear when the plaque – fixed with others to a tall plinth – was put in place. Cemetery workers had no idea the dates and name matched the late Queen star.
According to the Kensal Green Cemetery website, bronze plaques “can be provided for those whose cremated remains have been strewn in the Scattering Garden”.
One Queen fan said: “Everyone knows Freddie was cremated at Kensal Green Cemetery in 1991 but it has remained a complete mystery as to where his ashes were finally laid to rest.
“According to some biographies, his ashes weren’t even collected from Kensal Green for well over a year following his cremation. The discovery of this plaque is really exciting and may prove to be a major breakthrough.”
Mary, referred to by bisexual Freddie as his wife, inherited the vast bulk of the star’s lucrative song rights. Queen sold around 300 million albums worldwide and had a string of hit singles, including Bohemian Rhapsody.
Freddie’s former partner Jim Hutton said in 1994 he believed his ashes were buried at Garden Lodge in Kensington, West London.
He said: “It’s become something of a riddle, but I’m pretty sure his final resting place is at the foot of the weeping cherry tree overlooking the whole place.”
Other theories suggest the ashes were sent to Zanzibar, where Freddie was born, or scattered on the shore of Lake Geneva in Montreux, Switzerland, where he had a flat and a statue of him has since been erected.
He's in a McDonalds, but I'm not allowed to say which one.

this is the worst possible bit of news
1. the pilgrimages will start - and the place will be overun with the obsessed and morbid fans, people going there to mourn their loved ones won't be able to in peace and solitude - because everyone knows that every band has a number of lunatic fans
2.the graffiti - the place will be daubed in all kinds of messages - nice and not so nice - but either way no place for it in a cemetary
really hope i'm wrong - but can't see it - if the doors/walls of garden lodge were anything to go by...this'll be the holy grail for the deranged

Can't wait to scribble "FREDDY MERCURY SINGER OF SONGS LOVER OF LIVE 1946-1991 THE SHOW MUST GO ON! QUEEN FOREVER" on the plaque.

*shrug* In all honesty, the way Mary Austin relates it (his 'I know exactly where I want you to put me, I don't want anyone digging me up' etc. etc.) you'd think it'd be a place of more significance than a stupid cemetery.
Probably a red herring. In fact if I was Freddie, I'd have an ACTUAL red herring buried there just to fuck with the treasure hunters.

I agree Z... his ashes are most likely elsewhere and the plaque was placed there because the cremation was done at the location. I saw this a while back.

Swing and a miss Daily Mirror. As a Canadian I can attest that that French translation is completely wrong. The correct expression is roughly "So stop scribbling all over my walls you utter arseholes. -M"

A plaque in a cemetary doesn't necessarily mean that Freddie's ashes are there. Anyone can have one placed there. Maybe Mary has learnt French, but she had no interest in it when I was in Garden Lodge. That's all I can say!"[/i]

I respect Freddie's wishes and according to them nobody should know where his ashes are now, but it would be nice to know where his ashes are so we could bring him a flower
The "strange" thing is: is it possibile that Brian, Roger and John are completely strange to this fact? do you think that they could know where Freddie's ashes rest and keep the secret along the Mary's order?
