Totally unexpected moment last night in central London.
I crossed paths with Mary Austin of all people.

I asked for her autograph, and the guy she was with (not sure if they were a couple) - he told me, "I don't think that'd be possible, no.". Then she gave me a warm smile, and that was that.

Just thought I'd share that with you peeps.

Why the FUCK would you want her autograph?

lol well? Maybe there are some Mary Austin fans out here somewhere. She was probably flattered that you knew who she was and asked for the autograph.

she's not a celebrity. why SHOULD SHE? leave her alone

that's what i "love" about this site - the perverse obsession with their friends/families/children/pets/parents...you fucking name it....if someone is NOT a celebrity in their own right, then that person has the same rights to privacy as we do.


ps - when i said "love" i meant hate - because there's some mentally twisted, fucked-up fans about.

there was an odd rumour that crept up recently, she sold Garden Lodge to some oriental man.... fact or fiction... guess we'll never know

Never said she should have to.
Sure, if someone told me they'd been stalking her outside her home or pestering her in an untoward way, I'd tell 'em to leave her alone - but I wouldn't call politely asking for her autograph a "perverse obsession".

Also - I thought about that afterwards - that she seems private and probably doesn't like being recognised by the public, maybe it was a tad thoughtless to ask. Fair enough. But it also came to mind that no one twisted her arm to be on any documentaries after Freddie's death did they? What I mean by that is she didn't completely steer away from showing her face on any public medium.

And IF you're lumping me in with the "mentally twisted, fucked-up fans" simply because I asked that then you can go fuck yourself.

since you ask. my reply was mainly aimed at Guild93 - who seems to imply an autograph is the least she should do. preposterous crap!

as for your comments: at worst you were clumsy. but and this is a big but - fact you shared that you asked her in the first place implies you felt it alright to ask a non-celeb for an autograph
secondly, did it ever occur to you that out of all the so-called friends who have appeared in freddie docus - she is one of a minute number who have actually maintained a level of reverence and respect for a true friend that she cared deeply about.

She's a non-celeb, but - and it is a but - she'd be known to Queen fans and she's not totally shied away from that since Fred's left, as I say - putting her face to docs.
You know, I'm not justifying it, because In all honestly, I didn't fully expect her to, and there's no reason whatsoever that anyone should expect her to - so yeah, you're right about that - it probably was clumsy of me at worst.

You know of Ian Holme? Guy who played the Hobbit and was in the original alien movie? I was in a situation once talking with him - also unexpected as I sometimes bump into well known people where I work. He gave me his autograph (I didn't ask for it either).
When I got home, I tucked it in my Lord of the Rings dvd cover.
I'd have done the same thing with hers, put in one of my Queen C.D's. Although, she's the first person I ever asked (and wouldn't ask anyone again) - but only because I'm a long time fan of Fred's and Queen and she's associated with him.

And that's all.

Exactly what I was thinking. Jeez - 'celebrity' by association is just ridiculous in this day and age isn't it.

You can have my autograph if you like - in my last job two of my colleagues were:

1) the brother of Topper Headon (The Clash's drummer), and
2) George Michael's uncle (true fact, not made up), so that probably makes my autograph twice as valuable as Mary's as she was only associated with one famous person??
