Brian May's tribute off his Soapbox:

RIP ALVIN LEE

Legendary and influential guitarist

and very nice bloke.

His speed and dexterity, in the days when I would go as a student to the Marquee Club to see Ten Years After, was scary and exciting.

He was daring enough to play and sing close to his limit every time.

As a man off-stage, his persona was modest and gentle.

On stage - a giant who will be missed greatly.

That's a damn shame. The Woodstock performance of Going Home was electifying and a big influence on many budding guitarists including Angus Young.
"Queen is the only band in the world that can play so heavily that your nose bleeds, then offer a silk handkerchief to clean up with."

Didn't know that about Angus, so thanks for that. It doesn't surprise me one bit though!

Here is a another tribute. This one's from Keith Emerson off his Facebook page:

To Alvin Lee (19 December 1944 – 6 March 2013)

Dear Alvin,
You checked out way too early my friend.
I'll miss the fun we had on mini-motorcycles, you as "Awful Knawful" and our failed attempt to swim back to England from the Bahamas. That was some time ago but we made it through.

Above all EVERYONE will remember the fun and the music you made. My prayers go out to Jasmin, Evi and Suzanne, and also to my friends of 'Ten Years After": Chick Churchill, Leo Lyons, and Rick Lee.

Love,
Keith Emerson.
