any fans of the prog band KANSAS?

Having newly just acquired the albums MONOLITH and MASQUE ... I've got to ask. .. do any of their other albums measure up to the greatness of these? Esp fond of Monolith


Man, I feel like such a tool now having passed on them for over a decade because I had em figured for MOR rock trash.


Why oh why did I fall into the overplayed song shunning? (Carry on my wayward son is played every other song on rock stations. ... I now am jaded with it)

I have those two albums as well as Point of Know Return (the one Dust in the Wind is on). That's worth getting, too.

My parents also bought Always Never the Same a while ago, where they just re-recorded a bunch of old songs with an orchestra. That one's also pretty cool.

Not sure if I would consider myself a fan, but I'm definitely familiar with a good chunk of their music.

For me, Wayward Son hasn't been so overplayed that it's virtually unlistenable, though it's getting to that point.

There are Kansas-Queen connections that might be of interest. Kansas toured with Queen in the mid 1970's and Steve Walsh later characterized Fred as an asshole and a prima donna whose sense of importance outstripped his talent, or something like that. Ha ha. Also, Roger sang background vocals on 'Play the Game Tonight' and a couple of other songs off Vinyl Confessions in 1982.

I always thought I would probably have kind of a tough time getting along with Freddie if I met him in person...at least, if I didn't idolize him.

I love Kansas =D ! They are my Second Favorite Band followed by Bowie and The Who and of coures Queens my First. Leftoverture is alright from what I have already heard I was writing an essay I found the album on YouTube I believe I did not get through the full album, but I am not sure I pulled an all niter that day. Anyways I think I saw Leftoverture at a record store and passed it because I was not a full fledged fan then and now I regret not buying it. The live midnight special version of The Pinnacle is also amazing.

^ lol because Supernatural unoffficial theme song is Carry On My Wayward Son. That is like the only Kansas song he plays, and they yet to still play any Queen that bothers me just a bit.

They focus on classic 1970s American rock, mostly avoiding songs by non-US bands songs.

Now I see. Thank you that explains that, yet they still take on ACDC and Led Zepplin, but yeah they try to avoid non U.S Rock bands .

Radio has playlists that consist of the same few hundred (or dozen, if it's current top 40) songs because the familiarity will keep most people tuned in, which keeps advertisers happy.

If you want variety, try going on the internet some time. I hear it's really good.

Is it this bad in the UK, Europe and Australia? When I think of Australian radio I think of the awesomeness of Triple J.

I really like Closet Chronicles and Hopelessly Human from Point of Know Return.

I like The Wall and Miracles Out of Nowhere from Leftoverture. Song for America from Song for America and Fight fire with fire are good too( not sure what album Fight fire with fire is from though have yet to give 80s Kansas a listen to.)

The Lightnings Hand from Point of Know Return is good too.
